A universe where Avengers #200 doesn't happen, dare I dream?
I only recently read these stories, the Avengers Essential trades end with this year. Avengers 190 had a great moment, with Beast humiliating Gyrich. I take that as his motivation behind targeting mutants as opposed to super-humans in general. Very curious to see if Meri revisits the fight with Grey Gargoyle or picks up right after. And yes, we get Falcon sticking around when he's no longer mandated to be there, but no return of Hawkeye? Boo this is before Taskmaster's first appearance, but yay if Meri does his own take on that.

Very cool.
The Korvac sage and that John Byrne 'only seven of you can stay' cover is where I became hooked on the Avengers. Be fun to see that era again.
Be good to the Falcon. I was happy when he joined and bummed at what a rough time he got.

Nice!
Alternative Branch or a run off of Avengers Immortal? I always wanted to do Avengers Immortal but your promos are pretty awesome. Cant wait
If we are doing request, please do Pym right when he eventually comes around. The writing of Pym varies greatly from writer to writer but the possibilities of yur creation has me drooling.

I'm so excited for this!
Will it be like AVENGERS 1980 #192? Picking up right after Avengers #191?
Beyond excited for this!

Thanks, guys!
Jason, issue #1 will indeed be, effectively, Avengers #192, continuing directly from the end of the real #191.
Steve, Avengers #200 was right at the forefront of my mind when I started planning this. To kick off with #201 would have been far more aesthetically pleasing, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Issue #200 and all its evil must be exterminated.
Starting with #192 does mean we lose the Taskmaster storyline, but it's just a natural cut-off/new beginning point.
No Hawkeye at first - I really want to work with that line-up in the main picture and go from there - but he's on the standby list, along with Thor.
Travis, I definitely want to see how much I can do with the Falcon. His original inclusion on the team was ham-fisted to say the least, but he's there on merit from #192 onwards, and one of the villains I have in mind is a perfect match-up for him.
Stuart, it's definitely Alternate and not Avengers Immortal, so it wouldn't tread on your toes hopefully.
Hank Pym's an interesting one. Here's where we're at opposite ends of the spectrum, unfortunately - my all-time favourite character is The Wasp, and I always like Jan better when she's flying solo. HOWEVER, part of the challenge of writing a period title is that I have to be true to the source material, and as of #191, Jan and Hank are happily married, albeit with him taking time out from the team to concentrate on his scientific endeavours. So, yeah, Hank will be around, and I promise I won't be a dick to him; there'll certainly be no mirroring of the classic Avengers timeline where he goes off the rails, as that didn't do either of the Pyms any favours.

Marvel Premiere #47 was April 1979, which means Scott Lang is Ant-Man, so I'm happy.
While looking that up, I was surprised to see the Proteus story ended December 1979. So if someone decided to do a 1980's X-Men, that'd be with no Kitty Pryde, Dazzler, or even Hellfire Club. Only those hints of Jean being manipulated by Wyngarde, who I don't think had been revealed as Mastermind at that time. So the option for a completely different take on the Dark Phoenix Saga, hmmm....

I'm not going to lie. I'm intrigued by this! I would get behind a 1980 line! Just sayin'! LOL

@meri - Whatever you do with Hank Im sure Ill be happy with. In M2K universe Hank Pym died, so seeing him again outside of Avengers Immortal will be great.

Steve, you'd be a braver man than me to take on Uncanny X-Men at that exact point in time, given that the Dark Phoenix / Hellfire Club story is one of THE X-Men tales. Looking through those issues, #140-#141 seems a more natural cut-off point. Kitty's joined the team, Cyclops has taken his leave of absence after Jean's death, and Days Of Future Past - where the X-Verse really takes a dark turn, Jean's demise notwithstanding - hasn't happened yet. There's also Alpha Flight and the new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants concepts to play with.
Issue #141 would be the blank slate that offers most scope, I think (and you could still legitimately go with an UNCANNY X-MEN 1980 title).
On these lines, there are a lot of blank slates in 1980. Amazing Spider-Man #201 (after the Mysterio/'death' of Aunt May in the nursing home story), Fantastic Four #215 (the classic team, fully healed and refreshed after the Galactus/Sphinx battle), Defenders #85 (perm any from Dr Strange, Hulk, Namor, Valkyrie, Hellcat, Nighthawk), Thor #301 (after the death of Odin)...

Well, keep in mind Mystique first appeared in the Ms. Marvel title a couple years earlier, so she'd be around to play with. Also, the idea of an incredibly powerful Phoenix making the X-Men uneasy, with Professor X off in space and unable to keep her in check, that's quite appealing. The scene where she mentally pushes Kitty's father was very unsettling. Just imagine that going on a bit longer.

An AVENGERS 1980 and possible a UNCANNY X-MEN 1980? Say it's so Steve!

I've mostly just been thinking on the keyboard. But hmmm, by summer's end I may just make a pitch.
Either way, I'm very much looking forward to what Meriades has planned with the Avengers. Particularly with Vision and Scarlet Witch. So far as I remember, the Human Torch origin is still in effect, and Wanda's parentage is simply an open secret among readers.

This all sounds cool. My biggest sadness is that the New Mutants don't exist for another year or so.
Though it would be great fun to retell/reimagine their entire existence from origin onwards without Professor X to guide them (as he's off in space) having to rely on Moira etc Not that I'm at all foaming at the mouth to tell this story and make some tweaks (having Karma's brother be on the team too for example....to start with)
EDIT: shoot forgot he's already dead. Thanks Marvel-Team Up/ Fantastic Four Annual (Never remember which one it was)
