And here we go. Fresh from dropping a whole bushel of wiki pages for this release, its time to get them reviews up and running as well. With nine titles to read, let's get to it and see if they'll be pristine articles or be the proverbial bug in the system. Let's go bug testing right now...
C.O.D.E Confidential #2 - If there is one thing that this title has brought to my attention, is the fact I hate typing 'Mirror Mirror Verse' over and over again. In all seriousness though, Dave Golightly brings the interesting dichotomy of the Sentry (and Void) to this title in spectacular fashion. Not only do we get a brilliant piece of narrative, we also get one of the best fight scenes I have seen in Marvel Mayhem for a long time, both of which make me want to explore this title further.
Rating - 9/10 (Pristine Launch)
Deadpool #6 - Liam Goncet writes a touching Deadpool story as he suffers from one of the most human emotions; being alone in the world. It's hard not to feel a little sorry for Wade as he gets dumped by Cynthia, then meets Siryn, only for us the readers to see that her interests lie elsewhere (with Peter Wisdom no less). Still at least Wade won't be lonely for long with his one true partner returning in the form of Cable. While this issue wasn't overtly action heavy, it more then made up for it with the focus on an all too human aspect of a character, something that shows the writers commitment to the development of the title in the future.
Rating - 9/10 (Pristine Launch)
Excalibur #35 - It would be hard to not feel a little sympathetic for the villains and heroes who are in less then human conditions (except the U-Foes, they did that to themselves), so the justifiable rage is understandable and well handled by Dan Ingram. As an action heavy issue, there was a number of interesting fight scenes, with Batroc vs Mr X being the stand-out example, especially when one of the most underrated fighters beats someone who 'on paper' should clean his clocks. In addition we have an interesting story arc being formed, so hopefully we won't have to wait too long for the next issue to come out.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Pristine Launch)
Fantastic Four #75 - Like most Tobias Christopher stories, the Fantastic Four's return was designed to tug on the heart-stings of the reader, something that the writer does with exceptional ease. Despite that this story felt like it was let down a bit by one character; Victor Von Doom. Maybe its just my misconception, but Doom felt a little hammy, even reading like a stuck up and insolent child (at least to me) for a time. Thankfully the action this insolent Latvarian caused was most entertaining, and representative of an interesting conflict inside all of us, one that I hope will be explored at a later date.
Rating - 8/10 (Pristine Launch)
Iron Man #4 - Tony Stark's Hawaiian vacation isn't going well as AIM continues its medalling with time, and general peskiness by hiring monster mercenaries. While the actual fight scene action was a wee bit lacking, Tony Thornley made up for it in the sense of desperation conveyed in this title, as well as that intriguing hook for the following few issues at the end of this tale. If you don't have time to read this series then I suggest finding some Von Doom radiation and make some time, it will be well worth it.
Rating - 9/10 (Pristine Launch)
Power Man and Iron Fist #11 - The Warden and Dragon Fist more like, with C.O.D.E creeping into other titles we get to see the differences between our favourite Heroes for Hire and their evil selves. But its the Avengers Next team that steals the spotlight, with exceptionally quick thinking and ingenuity by determining that the Cage who brutalised Jigsaw isn't their Cage. Doubtless their insight will be punished by the brutal Warden, which should make for a seismic shakeup regarding the real Luke Cage, and more importantly good reading for us.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Pristine Launch)
New Warriors #27 - This title was a living bomb blast, as Annihilus and Blastaar continue to flex their villainous muscles against the young heroes trapped in the Negative Zone. As always Tobias Christopher provides the right balance of emotion, action and intrigue, especially regarding the mystery of the missing Frankiln (or his aura - re. Fantastic Four). Honestly there is really nothing I can say about this issue that I haven't reiterated many times before, if you want to learn how to write emotional scenes read this title and Impulse (as well as Emma Woods Girl of Steel series) for good instruction
Rating - 9.5/10 (Pristine Launch)
Young Avengers #5 - Dan Dolan brings up an interesting dilemma regarding the safety of all and the selfishness of the few with the 'Skrull Question' he has brought up in this issue of Young Avengers, one that I hope he explores further in the next few issues. As always the continuous development of characters is most impressive, especially bringing in the dynamics regarding Ms America's arrival in M2K. Not only that but we appear to be getting a few Avenger guest appearances too. This title may be young in name, but it already seems to have the strengths found in more established titles.
Rating - 9/10 (Pristine Launch)

We're heading into some truly insane territory and I am very excited about it.

Yeah, writing the Batroc vs. Mr. X scene was more fun than I thought it would be. I think character and experience matter at least as much, if not more, than a gimmick. And you gotta be tough to go up against Cap!

Doubtless their insight will be punished by the brutal Warden, which should make for a seismic shakeup regarding the real Luke Cage, and more importantly good reading for us. Rating - 9.5/10 (Pristine Launch) Thanks, John! For this second CODE story, I wanted to bring the Sentry in and pit him against the Void in a slightly different way, and I thought that using the mirrorverse to do that would be unique. Everyone seems to hate on the Sentry, but I think he has a lot of potential. The next CODE issue will get into the actual event itself, namely what's going on with the Great American's plan. I am loving writing the Avengers NEXT teens. I actually was going to drop the title a few issues ago, but the thought of Danny and Luke being hired to run a super hero training school seemed too good to pass up. We'll tackle the Warden issue next, and then on to Danny's problem! John, now here's some feedback on your titles: PROJECT ARGENT #6 - I'm starting to not want this series to end. I know that you plan to end it within the next few issues, but I don't think that anyone would complain if you kept on writing it. Especially after these last two issues that really delved into the psyches of the characters. I had never heard of most of your dibs when you pitched this, but with these past two stories you've really made them important figures that have developed nicely. VILLAINS FOR HIRE #17 - I mean...a villain team trapped in a place experimenting on other dead villains? That's just genius right there. I especially liked the Electro bits. Really fun to read. MIRROR MIRROR: CROSS - This was a surprise to find in my inbox. I'm really glad to see the flip side to Cross' personality. He's still a born killer, but he's justified. It really felt like one of those old westerns where the hero knows that there needs to be some killin' and he's not happy about it, but it just needs done.

Sadly Project Argent was meant to be nothing more then a stop gap between nothing and the Agents of Argent title (a book about a SHIELD type organisation that's even more secretive then the former aforementioned title). Still Agents of Argent (being conceptualised at the moment) should be a more then adequate replacement that includes almost all of the same cast, as well as a few more characters slotted in. Plus Nero and Hannigan is soon to be a thing (nuff said)

Villains For Hire #17: Dammit John. Even though I'm not familiar with any of the starring villains, that was a good story. John gave us solid stakes, a scary antagonist and a great twisty plot. It was a lot of fun to read. The feedback I'd give is to remember every issue is someone's first. In this case, considering you use a lot of b- and c-listers, giving everyone a solid, if brief, introduction would really have added to the accessibility. I did like, for personal reasons, that Electro does seem to be in line with what I did with his resurrection in Scarlet Spider all those years ago.
Definitely going to go back and read more. :-)

I struggled a little bit writing the action in this issue, but I think it turned out okay. It was a fun one to write.

Here are some reviews of the issues I've read so far!
C.O.D.E. Confidential #2
I've seen David express, on more than one occasion, his fondness for the Sentry so it was a delight to see him get the spotlight in this issue. The fight between Sentry and his mirror self, The Void, proved to be compelling, I even believed briefly that Sentry would pull through, but things only get worse before they can get better. David also continues to show that not everyone is keen on following the Great American's plan and that might just be the thing that undoes this whole takeover.
Excalibur #35
They say the greats make it look easy, if that's the case than Daniel Ingram just might fall into that category. Despite this being the end of an arc and my first issue of Excalibur, Ingram never loses my attention or interest. The action stays frantic and the dialogue remains entertaining throughout this piece. There are a few fights in this issue but the best one is easily Batroc vs Mr. X, in a series populated by lesser-known characters, Ingram manages to craft a fun and thrilling action scene that showcases what makes Batroc such a formidable opponent. Ingram also keeps a firm grasp on the characters, letting them all have moments to showcase their personalities and what makes them stand out. This is a stellar issue and I await the next installment with bated breath.
Fantastic Four #75
Marvel's first family reaches 75 issues and it is a blast! Tobias Christopher takes the FF into a battle with an alternate version of themselves and it is a joy. Reed shows signs of going down a darker path while the rest of the family deals with the return of Ben Grimm. The only real problem with the story is that Doom feels sidelined in the story itself but I expect we'll see more of him down the line. Here's to another 25 more for the Fantastic Four!
Iron Man #4
Iron Man can be a tricky character to write. It requires the writer to have a working knowledge of science, current technology and a mind for abstract ideas and concepts. Thankfully, Tony Thornly is more than up to the task. This issue is the conclusion of his first arc on Iron Man and it is a blast, seeing Tony foil AIM's latest scheme with a combination of both his brains and his skills in the armor is what makes me such a fan of the character. Things are far from over between the two, however, and there just might be some other problems on their way if the end is any indication.
Project Argent #6
The women of Argent deal with the traitor in their midst but nothing is ever quite as simple when John Cheese is at the helm. I really enjoyed the turn this story took from my expectations and as we head towards what appears to be the conclusion of the series I eagerly await what other turns John has in store. Naturally, the most energetic part of this issue is the flashback to Nero and Hannigan's first encounter with Barbara Robb. Cheese has not been shy about his love for this duo and it shows in their fight with the demonically-powered Robb. Elsewhere, we get some fun lines from Zawadi and an interesting journey for both Hannigan and Flintlock. All is never what it seems and Argent remains a testament to that.

Thanks! Yes, I’m one of the few people in existence that actually likes the Sentry. I wanted to use him and the Void in a way that would be a little different from their typical versions. The next CODE issue will see the switch being flipped on this whole subversion thing, and I’m almost done writing that story.

Thanks for reading and reviewing Project Argemt, I understand that like all me titles (sans LoD) it's a niche pick without the big names found elsewhere on site, but I really do enjoy writing this series, and hope to continue the quality and enjoyment quotient in Nero and Hannigan on its April/May release
