Sorry for the late responses to reviews, been very busy in the lab recently. I’m glad people are enjoying Nero and Hannigan and will endeavour to keep up the standard set

Some reviews as I make my way through the backlog!
Marvel Fanfare #95: I really enjoyed the feel of this tale, a flashback all the way to the very beginnings of the Avengers. It felt just like one of those classic issues of the series. Thor being occasionally confused by man-made technology, Giant-Man being clueless as Wasp flirts with him and Iron Man's smarts helping figure out the situation before it gets too dire. The story was simple but a ton of fun.
New Warriors 2018 Annual: The story of Cannonball's lost son has been brewing in the background for some time in New Warriors and we get to see how things went down on Josiah's side. I'm really glad Tobias took his time getting to Icarus' arrival. It allows us to be with Josiah as he experiences his grandfather's death and how to fend for himself and sets up for his character turn at the end. I'm curious to see where you go with this direction as Josiah looks to take out his grief on his old man. Things never calm down for the New Warriors.
Nero & Hannigan #5: I really do love this series. John Cheese has an incredible grasp of folklore and magic and it shows in every word of this issue. As always, the main duo has great banter and I enjoy Senor Magico continuing to crop up. Things start looking grim for our heroes but, then again, they always do. This issue involves a lot of explanation of what their foe actually entails and I want to give credit to Cheese for none of that explanation feeling bland or boring. It helps that some of it happens during a fight with ghost dogs, but it is still good work on his part!
Young Avengers #12: We reach the end of this current arc of Young Avengers and what an ending it is! These last few issues have been fantastic and this one brings it all together while also setting the path forward. I particularly enjoyed the parallel Dan Dolan establishes between Mikel Fury and the Young Avengers themselves. They've all been let down by the adults in their life at one time or another. The difference, of course, is how they react to that. Riri's double cross was very fun as was finally seeing Tommy and Will's powers in unison. This is the closing of one chapter, as well as a seeming farewell to some of the characters, but the next chapter is waiting right around the corner and I can't wait.

More reviews here!
Avengers vs X-Men #2: Event series are few and far between in fanfiction, usually because they involve a lot of wrangling of writers and their schedules. Steve Crosby and Cory Wiegel manage to find a near perfect balance in this issue between X-Men and Avengers. While the Avengers get to show off a bit more than the X-Men have so far it feel necessary given how well known the X-Men involved are when compared to the Avengers. The closing segment with Madrox was also a pleasure as I'm something of a fanboy of the character. Most of the setup seems finished and the actual conflict is poised to begin as the fate of not just Genosha, but the whole world could hang in the balance.
Serpent Society #1: In the aftermath of Dan Dolan's latest Young Avengers arc, a new group of villains plan their moves. The swift and brutal takeover of the Serpent Society was very fun to see and while it felt hard to get a grasp on the characters involved I was still sold on their actions. I love me some Hawkeye so I enjoyed seeing him pop up here and look forward to his involvement. The Harlem group were the most exciting to see from a character standpoint, they all stood out and had their own personalities that made me immediately want to see more of them than we ended up getting. My only real concern going forward is that there may be too many characters to juggle, but outside of that this was a fantastic debut issue.
X-Men: Mutant Underground #3: How much praise can I continue to heap on Gavin McMahon before it starts to get weird? This issue is another fun example of McMahon's deft balancing of plot and character beats. Tying the events of the issue with the secret past of Dreamer is a terrific way to structure the issue and her interactions in the present with Toad and Colossus give an understanding to her character that previously was absent. Elsewhere, Kitty tries to hold things together as tensions rise between Marrow and Dazzler. Gavin never forgets that X-books thrive on in-fighting between team members and keeps that an element here. The Leper Queen remains at large and the Mutant Underground is gonna need to get its act together if they want to stop her.

Focusing on Dreamer was a bit of a risk since this version is an original character and probably not the most sought after character for readers in the series. I think it worked out well though, I liked taking the chance to explore a lesser known character and make sense of the hints that have been appearing in her previous appearances. This was her connection to Colossus and why he warned her off helping Toad with her powers. Marrow and Dazzler ended up being more interesting together than I expected. It's antagonistic but a lot of fun to write. As the story of Lydia Nance and the Leper Queen speeds forward, the stakes are going to increase and we're hopefully gonna see some "classic" X-Men moments within this series.
