Firstly, this review might be a bit shaky. Apparently, if you enter the dark, sordid world of my brain areas, the title of this series is Iron Man & Power Fist. As fun as that sounds, it's probably not a series that will ever be written.
So, here we go -
First Issues are fun, as well all know. This is where we all get to put down the main chunk of our ideas and really go for broke, and honestly, I think some areas of this first issue suffer a little bit from the dreaded info dump.
Now, I won't fault this, because I am far more guilty of a multitude of other sins in my own writing. Unclear descriptions, horrific grammar, ideas that don't actually make a huge amount of sense, that sort of thing. It was most noticeable during the Iron Fists introduction. Just little bits that were a bit jarring that made me think 'I know this. This is a bit...false?'
But, to be honest, if that's all I can find fault with, then...this is a good read right?
Wrong. This isn't a good read.
This is a great read. (NYAH!)
Great set up right from the start. All we need to know for this big adventure. Luke and Danny are best mates. Danny is missing because his Chi is on the blink, Luke misses him. BLAM! We get blindsided with Luke as well. I like his over confidence, and that being the subversion that dropped him. He thought his skin would protect him from harm, like it did with the Eel, but it was never his body they were after.
I'm not a great lover of mind control storylines, and I think I might know how Danny fixes Luke already, but, to be honest, I don't mind. I'm in it for the ride and for the adventure, because I know Dave knows how to write a good adventure story, and I know that the chemistry really is between Luke and Danny, alone they're alright, but together, they're great fun!
Not terribly sold on the villains yet, but I suspect there's more to it then meets the eye.
Over all, I'd rate this a 4/5. So, go and get in on the ground level, boys (and girls?)
