When I found out Secret Defenders was coming. I was excited. The original Marvel series was a complete Dogs Dinner, and frankly, even with Druid at the helm, it ended like it started. A wave of confused readers going 'Seriously. Why is this even IN my pull list?"
That said, I love the idea of Secret teams, and I love the Defenders. What's left to love?
Dale 'The Boss' Glaser.
Dale's a great writer, and an even nicer guy to talk to, as I am sure most of you have. But aside from my Man Crush on Dale, what does this issue have to offer?
A cracking opener, and something that Fanfic has missed for a long, LONG time.
Rintrah. Rintrah is the best thing in Dr Strange's supporting cast. Honestly. It saddens me to think nobody will ever bring that poor sod back.
I can't honestly fault anything this issue. I was totally taken in. It's a gathering the team issue, but it works. The Defenders are a non-team as much as anything else, and to have the Doc's contingency plan recruit some random heroes in case he ever got Magic Bulletted. Honestly, I didn't necessarily known who Pamela Shaw was, but Dale made it so that I wanted to read on to get to know her. The rest of the cast, equally brilliant. So random, yet...in the context of the story, it all makes sense. Honestly, I don't want to give anything away because you all need to go and read it, and probably research the characters afterwards, but read it first!
Sorry this review is a bit poor really. I just really enjoyed this and think people should read it for themselves!
5/5 from me! Go Read.
