As I'm finishing up Thunderbolts, I got to thinking about the multiple names that these characters use. MACH-1 for Beetle, Songbird for Screaming Mimi, Techno for Fixer and so on. Then there's Atlas, who was previously Goliath, Smuggler, and Power Man (which Luke Cage took from him in a totally unfair fight).
In this current title, the trend has continued. Mister White turned out to be a previously established character, as did the new Scourge. Plant Man has undergone a change and now goes by Taproot. And then there's Moonstone, who the first chance she had dropped that Meteorite alias and back to her old name.
This is all a roundabout way of wondering where these characters, those that survive, will go from here. Try to continue as heroes, return to a form of villainy, perhaps something else altogether? And whatever their path, what name will accompany it? Some names were chosen, others assigned by Baron Zemo for marketing purposes, others abandoned because of bad history or stolen. The name won't just symbolize the new path, it also represents where the characters have been.
And seriously, the door is open for a rematch of the Power Mans.

I'd be down for a one-shot battle royale with Cage and Atlas.

Oh, it'd be a terrific fight. Mainly because I don't see how Cage could win, and seemingly one-sided battles where the hero really struggles are among the most fun. Last time his powers was flawed and fading, but the mix of Pym Particles and ionic energy places Josten in the big leagues. He's gone toe-to-toe with Thor and beaten Hercules into a coma.
It wasn't until writing these final stories that I realized how powerful a lot of Thunderbolts are. Like, scary powerful. Songbird not only has Quasar's powers but has regained her original power set. Liquify matter, hypnosis, even visual hallucinations. Taproot is that terrific combination of godlike power and utter insanity. And anything anybody can do, Fixer can just build himself something to do it better. Only instead of build it, he'll just tell the machine to reconfigure itself.
Wow, just imagine if these folks stayed together and accepted Baron Zemo's leadership.
