T-Bolts #34 by Steve Crosby and Chris Munn
The Good: I think the best thing about this issue is that it signals a conclusion and I don’t mean that in any kind of a bad way. It should be celebrated when a story comes to an end, even when it makes you a little sad that it’s going away. Chris Munn’s T-Bolts was one of those runs that makes you see the true potential in fanfic. That you don’t always have to write about Spider-Man or the X-Men to tell a really captivating story. So in that respect, kudos to this run. There are a lot of things to like in this issue. Vagabond’s death bringing things full circle and Beetle deciding to step his game up.
The Bad: I don’t expect everything in a run to be wrapped neatly and tidily. The nature of fanfic almost calls for leaving something for the next writer to pick up on. But damn what the hell happened to the Ladykiller? That didn’t feel like a dangler to me as much as something that just couldn’t be bothered with anymore. And I think that’s where my problem with it is. It doesn’t feel like something simmering behind for the next ambitious writer to pick but rather an idea that just couldn’t be dealt with anymore.
Overall: Thunderbolts at M2K is a classic. I don’t think anyone can deny that. Well they can but then they’d just look stupid. I’m happy to see after all of these years that Chris was able to bring his story to an end. Like all good stories, you’re satisfied but damn if you don’t wish you could get more.
