A great turnout this year, and I'm glad that this small tradition has continued onward and upward! Some awesome stories from prolific writers as well, so let's get to them:
Celluloid Fugitives From the 4th Dimension! - Featuring 3-D Man - by Bryan Locke
I'm really not familiar with this character other than as a punch line. This concept Bryan uses of the 3-D movie and the time as the fourth dimension (viewable via special glasses) is very creative. The central characters are well developed and this is a fun little romp into what feels like nostalgic Marvel.
Family Affairs - Featuring Crossfire - by John Cheese
I'm a sucker for villain-as-protagonist stories. John's Villains for Hire series gets a nice bit of extra padding with this entry into the Halloween Special. This particular story gets a little personal from Crossfire's standpoint, which is nice. I wasn't aware of how rich a character he could really be, and he's quickly becoming a favorite.
The Night I Hate and Fear - Featuring Dr Strange - by Brent Lambert
The very first paragraph will surely hit home for many readers. I feel like Dr Strange is one of those characters that everyone thinks they have a firm grasp of, and will overlook the potential. Does Strange sit in his Sanctum all day reading books? Maybe on weekends. It makes sense that the Sorcerer Supreme is always on constant vigil, but many people show him as a homebody. Brent bucks that trend a bit here. We need a Dr Strange title at M2K!
City Gun - Featuring Moon Knight - by Ed Ainsworth
The constructs of a city being modified to become a gun? Yeah, that's about par for the course as far as an Ed story is concerned. This is a fun quick story that everyone should read to see just how creative a writer Ed actually can be. Also, the quick shout out to Damage Control is awesome, and I think they should be used more often at M2K.
Space Salvage - Featuring Nebula - by Steve Crosby
Another character that I'm not overly familiar with. This entry proves to be very informative and Steve does a great job of getting the reader up to speed on this iteration of Nebula (as well as some other M2K factoids). Apparently we'll see more of Nebula in Steve's Avengers series, which is great, because I'm hungry for more.
A Haunting We Will Go - Featuring Spider-Man - by Cory Wiegel
Kraven is one of my favorite villains, and it's nice to see him in action, if only for a hot second. I'm very intrigued by the potential of his late wife as well, and I can only hope that Cory has something in mind for Bryan to work on in his Spider-Man series! Will we see this Mrs Kraven the Huntress again? I certainly so...Zombie Kraven...so cool!
Red - Featuring the Vulture - by Hunter Lambright
The Vulture, when supplied with a basic description, just doesn't seem overly threatening. The dude has wings. Is he really that big of a deal? Hunter proves that he can be, if used appropriately. I think we get desensitized from comics and tend to think that a hovering predator might not be so scary, be he can be a vicious adversary.
