Can't believe it took me so long to get around to reading this series, as I am a huge Champions fan.
Bit annoyed that this series being so much fun means my chances of getting to write the Champions shrink to nothing, but Marvel has more than enough second string characters that I'm obsessed with to keep me busy.
and Jeff writes these guys so well, that I can't even work up the energy to be angry with him.
Just the occasional pang of jealousy that I never thought of this idea myself...
Issue 1:
Still think you should have gone with making this issue #18...
nice re-introduction to the team and the era. Nice interaction between the heroes.
The original series was so busy, that they never seemed to take a breather for these kind of smaller moments.
Here and Johnny are an interesting pairing.
Why is Angel in his blue outfit? Is that based on some story from the time or just a preference?
Always preferred the red one myself.
Issue 2:
Black Goliath!
Always had a soft spot for this character and was bummed the series ended before they could make him a full member.
Be nice to have him on the team as both a hero and their science guy.
Was surprised Beast is gone so quick. While I didn't think he'd join, I was looking forward to him joining the fight.
Like the idea of Black Widow and Angel being co-leaders. That was the vibe I always got from the comic. Angel is better organized, but BW is better in the field.
Nice to see Ivan. Liked him as the team's 'Jarvis'.
Only gripes: the explanation of how Graviton got from being encased in rock all the way to the west coast seemed too pat and a bit lazy.
The music play list is too cutesy for my tastes and distracting.
Issue 3: great fight. Everyone gets something to do and you can see that while they are a team, they are still not used to working as one . Nice job of letting everyone have something to do without it feeling forced.
Satanna in Olympus...?
Interesting.
Winter Soldier: cute how you have retconned a retcon into your re-imagined history. I approve.
All in all, a fun, solid super hero title. Nice use of history and a good job fleshing out the personalities and relationships.
Looking forward to reading more.
