It seems like I've been good this year, because I have two late presents lying outside under the yew tree in the pouring rain. Best to take them in since two late presents are better then one, and for obvious reasons one is better then none. This time I'll be judging weather these entries are naughty or nice, and if there respective writers will be getting a tasty satsuma (other types of oranges are available) or a lump of coal (other carbon based fossil fuels are also available). Without further ado, lets hop in a sleigh and get round to business.
The Giver and the Tree - Ah the Collector, I always had an inkling that he had a generous side and Dan Dolan shows it off perfectly with the dichotomy of character he has created. Not only did he create a sympathetic anti villain in the Collector, he also featured a vibrant and enthralling supporting cast of characters which really build up the main character and open him up for future growth. Whether or not said growth will be capitalised on, this tale (which seemed to have a touch of a Christmas Carol to it too) is the epitome of what a Marvel/DC Christmas tale should be, true it would be great in a series, but it can also stand alone by itself as well.
Rating - 9/10 (Satsuma)
Christmas Beyond the Stars - There must be something about space trees (don't trust them they'll take your wallet) because Travis Hiltz's tale also features foliage from beyond the stars. In all seriousness, the attempt by Alana to create a perfect Christmas shows the romantic devotion the Strange's share with each other, especially since she doesn't quite understand the holiday her husband loves. Alana's character development in this story is beautiful, and shows that a character in a comic doesn't need excessive feats to be a hero. Hopefully Adam and Alana won't be strangers in the future and we'll see more of them soon.
Rating - 9/10 (Satsuma)
Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year
John

Thanks for the nice words. I was tempted to make the alien one of the snow men aliens from that old 'Strange adventures' cover, but I came up with a couple dumb gags that made me chuckle if I went with a tree.
Again, I only planned to do this silly, sweet one off story, but really liked writing Adam and Alanna, so may do more with them down the road.

No problem, it's kind of weird that sentient trees appeared in both yours and Dan's stories. Kind of wish I'd gone with the idea of killer misltoe taking over a fire station but ah well. Perhaps something for a Zombie Master/Enforcer series if I can stir up enough intrest for it.

A bit late but some of that holiday spirit is still hanging in the air, or on the ground depending on your current location.
The Second Saviour
I really enjoyed the Halloween story featuring Nero and Hannigan and this tale continued the fun of that one but for a different holiday. The premise is immediately fun, the idea of a new messiah for a different race is perfect for the season. The real magic here though is Cheese's way with dialogue, he instantly shows the connection and personalities of not just Nero and Hannigan but the untrusting father, the scared mother and even those weird Nazis. I wasn't crazy about the very end but that's more a nitpick as I think I preferred our duo as a professional couple but I'm still hoping we see more from these two in the future.
The Giver and The Tree
Now this is what you want from a holiday tale! One part "A Christmas Carol" and one part "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Dan Dolan does a masterful job of imbuing this story with all the classic tropes of those stories while making it feel fresh and wholly Marvel. I especially enjoyed the ending twist with Mantis and her son being the reason for all of this and what a final line! The brutal irony of the ending for The Collecter actually made me feel a little bad for the poor guy. He's finally learned decency, I wonder if it will stick?

An untitled Hannigan and Nero series is in the planning phase, by this point they've been together as partners (in crime) and business for two and a half years. The romantic aspect of their relationship won't last long...
