The Shadow...?
Maul is a Titan...?
Things are getting out of control on the DC side. Apparently I have not been paying attention.
Though, let us all take a moment to give thanks that Jake did not include sex doll Starfire in his Outlaws line up. I for one am grateful.

I like Dave's version of the Shadow at JLU 2001, and it's great to be back. Maybe I can get some Non-Dc titles I wrote and might do on the site as a side project.

"Wait a gosh darn minute... are we starting 2018 with DC2K's largest ever release?" - Emma Woods 10th January 2018
After burrowing through the annuals of time I can confirm that this probably is the largest release for DC 2000 thus far. But is this necessarily a good thing? Is bigger really better or has the site become 'too big to fail' with stories needing to be bailed out by grumpy taxpayers readers? As a reader myself, I'm anxious to find out...
Elseworlds #1 - Elseworlds provided an interesting story about a man becoming who he is meant to be. The comparison between the joking Hal Jordan, stoic Martian Manhunter and grumpy Sinestro provided a dynamic cast, one that felt like it could easily adapt to a number of stories and settings. While a few things confused me (Sinestro being a Martian for one) there wasn't enough to detract me from the story and I'm sure Travis will shed light (probably green) on the situation very soon. All in all a good start to what feels like a very interesting series.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Bigger = Better)
Girl of Steel #5 - A fitting conclusion to the first arc of Emma Wood's Girl of Steel. Throughout five issues we've seen Space Moria sucking the life, hope and joy out of the workers there, only to get a glimmer of hop at the end of the last issue. And that's all that was needed for Kara to rise, to finally throw off the self made shackles she created after the destruction of Krypton, and as such lead her fellow prisoners to a happy conclusion, all while maintaining her honour and standards. While the Mountain may no longer be waiting, I eagerly await the next issue of this series to see where Kara's journey will take her.
Rating - 9/10 (Bigger - Better)
Impulse #8 - I started reading this series on Impulse and then the Inertia caught up with me and I kept on going...(no laughs okay). Onto more serious business, if Trickster and Mr Mxyzptlk can ever be called serious, Tobias Christopher once again produces an endearing relationship (albeit one sided) between a child and its father in the form of Adam and Toyman. Not only that be we have a return of the Rogues, and whenever they appear we know things are about to get serious. It will be interesting to see if said Rogues manage not to break their one rule, but as for me, I'll make sure I don't break mine in the future reviews for this series.
(That rule is no more title jokes)
Rating - 9/10 (Bigger = Better)
Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 - It always seems unfair reviewing starting issues, be it an entirely new series or a new writer taking over, since said #1s always have to cram a lot of information, plot and characters in. So kudos to Jake Hawkings who kept said Issue 1 short, simple yet still enthralling. While I am no fan of the Red Hood, I am anxious to see where this title will lead, and it does feature Static, a character I have found memories of when growing up, in a post LoD DC2000 universe. Definitely a title to watch for in the near future.
Rating - 8/10 (Bigger = Better)
Teen Titans #1 - I wanted to like Teen Titans I really did, being an eco-toxicologist the 'plant's gone wild' title was right up my proverbial alley, but sadly (one of) my pet peeves when writing rose its evil head. That evil is improper spacing (the other one is script form BTW). It's a shame too, since the story telling aspect of Patrick Moore's premier Teen Titans Issue was fairly robust, and the additional story at the end was quite entertaining. Hopefully this is a just a blip and an editing error and will be rectified before Issue 2.
Rating - 6/10 (Grumpy Writer/Reader - Sorry about that BTW)
The Shadow #1 - And for the final title of the month we have a classic 40s Mystery Man Title (via 2001 apparently) written by Dave Golightly. I'm not going to lie, I love period set pieces, with the 1930s to 1940s being one of my favourites, the other being Meso-America during to Age of Discovery. As we've come to expect from Dave's writing, the storytelling and character exploration is sure to be exquisite and intriguing to say the least. With at least five more issues on the horizon I suspect a dark shadow will fall onto DC 2000, on that will continue to delight readers up to the last full-stop of the last issue.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Bigger = Better)

Johncheese: I'm working on Issue 2 and hope to use Grammarly after I send it, also thanks for the Wonder Twins backup review. I wanted to do a reboot of the Cartoon Network/Adult Swim shorts with the WT being screw-ups while trying to do a comeback. And having Gleek talk was inspired by Stewie Griffin, as I plan to make him more evil than his comedic counterpart. As for the main TT story, look for two familiar plant based heroes to show up next issue, and we'll go to Gotham Academy in the next arc.

No problem, sorry for being a bit grumpy but large blocks of text with no spacing, especially ones considering dialogue really make my blood boil. I used to ghost write for a friend (who sadly passed away last year) on another site and some of the submissions we got would be three pages of one text block. Yours is nowhere near as bad as that, so take heart and put a space or two between lines and lets moves on to the brilliant second issue. :-)

Thanking you kindly for the kind words, and I'm super glad that you enjoyed it XD
Between this and Batgirl, I have quickly found out that writing the final parts of story arcs are by far the most terrifying, as I'm desperate to stick the landing. While it is also super rewarding being able to pay things off, I am constantly aware that missing the mark can undo all of the work leading up to it. Hopefully I can put this one down as a success XD
What will all of this mean for Kara going forwards? Well, I'm writing issue 6 as we speak and, with a chance to catch her breath, there just might be something Arisa has been keeping from her...
Once I've had chance to read everything myself, I will shooting out a few quick fire thoughts of my own concerning this release, but for now allow me to say that the Legion of Doom are super mean, and I was super jazzed about the reference to Batgirl XD It fills me with giggles to be part of the tapestry.

Thanks, John! I've always loved the Shadow as a character, and since DC produced Shadow comics way back, I thought I would try and squeeze him onto the site.
As for LoD, this was a stunning issue. I think it's very difficult to find actual threats that could challenge our favorite Leaguers, and you've come up with some good ones. Superman is pinned, Batman's own city is under siege (and the threat isn't something he can punch), and Flash is caught in a conundrum. A very creative use of the villains in this issue, so everyone should check it out!

A big thanks to you and Dave for you kind words regarding reviews and the Legion. As for them being super mean, it's nothing compared to next issue with words such as 'amputate', 'eviscerate' and 'decapitate' all appearing in the literature.

As always, thanks for the good review.
Yeah, I cheated on Sinestro, by making him a 'red Martian' like in the Burroughs books. Wanted more than just the green and white martians of the DCU on my mars so I moved Sinestro's race here.
While I tried to make this stand alone as possible, the idea of mixing ERBs mars stories and silver age DC sci-fi characters is too tempting to be just a one off. So, I will be coming back it at some point.

From there it was a matter of wanting Jase to have an actual friend beyond Jon, so Adam may stick around in here until Toyman rears his head again in Action Comics. The Rogues storyline should be fun, as Jase is still learning about the *real* world. I can't wait to have interacting with more of the DC2KU.

A lot of people don't care for Jason at all haha its one of the reasons I really wanted to work on the character as I feel he really hasn't been done justice unless he's written by Judd Winick. As far as Static trust me I have those same fond memories and I just had to bring him into this team
