It's part two of the three part (right Dave) Marvel 2000 review, and once again I'm on the case, reviewing a trinity of titillating tales. Well lets hope they are titillating, I would hate to find out that they weren't and that I was spreading that good ole 'Fake News'. So let's see if these headlines deliver what they promise or they'll be trumped by whatever story the muckrakers are dragging out of the political ooze. Let's find out...
C.O.D.E Confidential #1 - Thunderbolts #1 way back in the 90s was the first comic I ever read. As such its always a boon in my eyes to see any of the characters from that series making a return as a main character, in this case Baron Zemo who acts in the reader's stead to help explain what C.O.D.E actually is. With the Great American already laying down his plans, and hinting at more unrevealed doppelgangers in Earth M2K it appears as if the stage has been set for a grand event. Hopefully Dave Golightly won't make us wait to long to reveal the future issues of this series.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Headline)
Xavier's Academy #6 - What a savage issue with a disturbingly deadly pack of predators! A. Crute reminds us why his title is a firm favourite with Beast's unfortunate trip to the Savage Land bringing the action while the search for him brings the drama. And as always the writing style and quality of this series continues to improve, something that the writer should be not only applauded for, but also extremely proud of. Let's hope Beast survives long enough to tell his tale, and hope that we see another instalment of Xavier's Academy soon.
Rating - 8.5/10 (Headline)
Young Avengers #4 - Dan Dolan continues to develop the characters of the Young Avengers and also manage to get them into all kinds of trouble. The story flows beautify and highlights the problems faced by aliens (both human and literal) have blending into a new society. In addition we get to see some LMD versions of our favourite characters, well favourite characters (Cap and Diamondback) and Nick Fury. I eagerly await the next issue of this series and find out what hijinks is set to occur.
Rating - 9/10 (Headline)

Thanks! The next CODE story will be along soon. This issue was originally going to be three times as long, but this first scene proved to fill an entire issue. Next we’ll see the Avengers, the Fabtastic Four, and even the Sentry.
I really enjoyed your Argent issue this month. I felt like the characters were expanded on more then ever. It’s great to see their motivations a little more clearly.

C.O.D.E. Confidential was a nice setup. Some folks complain about the revolving door of death for characters, but back in the day it was mostly what Dave does here. A character, usually the villain, dies at the end of a story. Their next appearance quickly explains how they survived, usually taking up a few panels to a page of story. So it was nice to see a certain character's return, and his interactions with the Great American. Can't wait to see this plan run its course, and how the first hero affected by it escapes and gets even.

You talk about other versions makes me wonder if there is something Spidey related we can use at some point.

Time for a fresh batch of reviews!
C.O.D.E. Confidential #1
Baron Zemo is one of my favorite villains in the MU and seeing him back in the spotlight here was a treat. The idea of teaming Zemo up with the Great American is terrifying and should be fun to see play out. We also get an explanation about what C.O.D.E. actually is and the stage is set for the rest of this thrilling series. I'm excited to see the dynamic between Zemo and the American play out as they surely both have plans for subduing the other.
Project Argent #5
Before we can move forward, sometimes, we must examine our past and that is exactly what the women of Argent must do in this issue. Each of them have a reason for being placed in the situation they've found themselves in and Cheese does an excellent job of fleshing out their backstory and giving it context through their actions in the series to date. The ending reveal isn't a complete surprise but it is certainly a fun one. Argent have been played this whole time and now it's time for them to strike back.
Xavier's Academy #6
This looks to be the last issue of this series, for at least the foreseeable future, which is a shame as it had really been picking up lately. This story is no exception. Beast is captured and must fend for himself against Kraven the Hunter, Sebastian Shaw and Wolverine. A formidable group of foes for the X-Men themselves let alone just a single one of them. Crute does a great job of showing what makes Hank McCoy one of the most gifted minds on the planet as he outsmarts his opponents and makes his escape just as the X-Men arrive. I really enjoyed where this series seemed to be going but if this must be the end than at least it went out on top.
Young Avengers #4
We start a new arc after the insanity of the last three issues and the group is split into three units. In one, the young heroes go to The Freezer, a storage unit for super-powered people and one of them finds an interesting discovery about their past. I love the concept of The Freezer and the various defunct LMDs running around keeping it up to date. Elsewhere, another group tracks down a few Skrulls who have been laying low trying to live a normal life on Earth. Things obviously get much more complicated from there. I like Dan's approach here by not painting these people in a negative light and giving them a clear reason for wanting to stay on the planet. Finally, back at the base, something is amiss and it doesn't look good for anyone. We'll have to wait and see exactly what is ahead but you can bet I'll be along for the ride!

I was really enjoying Anthonys take on the original X-Men.
