Warbird vs. Phoenix! Carol Danvers is a former United States Air Force pilot and CIA operative with advanced combat experience. After encounters with aliens and scientific experiments galore, she was granted powerful abilities including superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and durability, energy projection and absorption, and flight. Once known as Ms. Marvel, she now serves as Chairman of the Avengers under the code name "Warbird!" Jean Grey-Summers is the first student of Charles Xavier and a founding member of the X-Men. Initially a meek and compassionate young woman wielding simple telekinetic powers, she eventually grew to become a confident and powerful telepath and telekinetic in her right, rivaling even her mentor. Taking on the mantle of "Phoenix" after many trials and tribulations, she now serves as the headmistress of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning! Which one of these two powerful women will win a battle of mutual combat, the bombastic military vet and superhero or the fiery mutant mistress of psionic power?

I'm pretty sure that Carol doesn't have any mental defenses with her power set. Jean can take her down with a thought. Literally.

I'm going to give it to Phoenix. Warbird is fierce, but Dave's right. An overwhelming telepathic attack could bring Carol to her knees, especially with her demons, and Jean is one of the most powerful telepaths in the M2K world right now.

I love Carol. I love her so much.
BUT
Jean is the winner here.

I'm giving this to Warbird. Sure, once she suffered from a split personality and was brainwashed, but then Professor X helped her out. Following that time learning mental techniques from the world's greatest telepath, she survived torture by the Brood and overcame alcoholism. If anything, Carol may use the expectation that she'd fold under a telepathic assault to draw Phoenix in. At the first sign of an opening, Warbird takes it.

----------------------------------------- Amid the cackling electromagnetic storms and puffs of dark smoke from the flaming oil-spills below, Carol Danvers hovered in the air with a pair of long-range binoculars. She spied the fiery X-Woman known as the Phoenix was meeting with her a pair of her compatriots, Wolverine and Rogue, and sent them off in opposite directions. When she was sure Phoenix's teammates were long gone, Warbird put away her binoculars in a tactical pouch and descended on her target. “I can end this right here,” Warbird muttered to herself through grit teeth as she barreled through the Genoshan sky. “Just have to keep my mind clear... remember my training...” Warbird was tough as nails and as resilient as they come. Despite all of her demons and personal trials, she had come out stronger and more powerful. Each failure was a lesson learned and each setback would propel her forward. She was the leader of the Avengers for a reason, after all, and a successor to Captain America no less. Several yards away from the back of the Phoenix, Warbird drew her fist back and prepared to strike her unsuspecting foe... only for Phoenix to turn a split-second before Warbird's attack and back her with a fiery telekinetic wing as her namesake's avatar flared to life. “UNGH!” Warbird groaned as she was swatted away from Phoenix. She crashed through the nearest building and arched through the air on the other side of it, stunned from the unimaginable strength of Phoenix's blow, and skid across the pavement of the streets like a ragdoll. As she struggled to regain her breath, Phoenix descended upon her in a fiery aura. “I'm so sorry, Carol,” Phoenix said meekly. “I know that you've experienced a lot of pain in your life – I can sense it a mile away – but I promise I'll keep this as easy as possible.” Warbird opened her mouth to say something as rage began to build inside of her, but gasped and sighed suddenly. Her body went limp shortly after as she sprawled out on the street, unconscious. “Warbird took the bait,” Phoenix said over the X-Men's psi-web. “But Binary and Darkhawk are still out there, so we're not in the clear yet...”-----------------------------------------
