Rogue stepped backwards several feet, then took off into a run towards the edge of the rooftop she was standing on. Binary was getting away quickly and even if Wolverine didn't need time to heal there was no way he could keep up with the cosmically charged heroine. Rogue leaped in the air and was about to activate the power of flight from her vast mutant ability catalog when a cable wrapped around her ankle. With a powerful tug, the person on the other end of the cable reeled her in from the buidling's edge and caused her to smack into the concrete roof.
“Oof!”
“Not so fast!” an armored android with masculine characteristics said before activating its communicator. “This is Darkhawk. Binary's in the clear. I'll hold off Rogue.”
Rogue rolled onto her back and telekinetically flung Darkhawk's cable claw from her ankle so she could stand up. “You what's passin' for an Avenger these days, bucko?”
“That's what I'm told.”
Chris Powell, mentally controlling the Darkhawk android, withdrew his cable claw and dashed towards Rogue. He unleashed a powerful concussive blast from his amulet, but she instinctively transformed into organic steel and flexed her left arm in front of the blast, deflecting it, then used her right arm to smack Darkhawk away. Darkhawk tumbled across the rooftop but quickly rolled to his feet.
“Can't say you're much of a gentleman, given how you attacked a lady an' from behind, no less,” Rogue said as she doubled-back from Darkhawk and her skin returned to normal, only for her eyes to glow ruby red. “Y'know, Cap an' Thor didn't need fancy armor... and they knew how t' treat a woman!”
Rogue unleashed several optic blasts towards Darkhawk in rapid succession. He used his powerful strength to leap into the air and flexed his arms out, extending his underarm wings. He dived straight down towards Rogue and spiraled through her optic blasts, narrowly missing each one, before tackling her to the ground.
“This coming from the woman who tried to throw a pug ugly midget into my teammate's back like a lawn dart into a garden gnome?” Darkhawk said as the two struggled briefly and he ultimately pinned Rogue to the roof. Her glowing ruby eyes returned to normal.
“Touche,” Rogue said with a playful smirk. Her eyes then went pure white and she squeezed her legs up between their torsos and propelled him overhead. Before he could react, a bolt of lightning ripped from the sky and collided with Darkhawk, slamming him into the rooftop face first.
Rogue rolled back onto her stomach and shuffled to her feet as Darkhawk struggled to get up, dazed from the sudden shock to his system.
“As much as Ah'd love t' keep playin' games with you, the X-Men have got an island to save,” she said as her eyes went from pure white to cackling with electromagnetic energy. “Sayonara, Mr. Roboto.”
Rogue reached out to take hold of the armored android within a magnetic field, but something felt... off. She brought up both hands and exerted as much strength as she could to grip Darkhawk and propel him far away from her.
He barely felt a tickle.
Something was wrong, with either Darkhawk's electromagnetic field or Genosha's electromagnetic spectrum, or something else, and before she knew it Darkhawk was up and sprinting towards her. Rogue tried to switch to another power in her catalog, but it was too late. Darkhawk sent a powerful knee into her stomach, punched her across the face, and caused a concussive force field to explode from his amulet into her. She gasped and cried out before being thrown back into the rooftop, shocked into unconsciousness.
“Whew,” Darkhawk said to himself as he stood over the fallen Rogue. He activated his communicator again. “Darkhawk checking in. Rogue's down for the count. I don't know what happened, but I'll take i --- rghhZRK!”
Darkhawk's android body began to spasm violently before he could finish his sentence. He slowly levitated into the air as armored parts began to twist, contort, and tear off of him. Lavender energy escaped from openings across his armor as acidic looking green liquid spewed out of ruptures in his torso. Darkhawk cried out as he was then flung clear across the island towards the fiery coast. From the sky, a man in purple and crimson with a cape and helmet on descended towards the rooftop that Darkhawk and Rogue battled on.
"Hear me, Avengers!" the Master of Magnetism and former ruler of Genosha called out across the island. "The X-Men may have fallen, but I shall not submit so easily. This island is and will forever be a safe haven for mutants from the outside world, and no pawns of the U.N. will ever change that."
And the island trembled...
