At current I'm living a very crepuscular lifestyle, working four hours in the evening and four hours in the early morning with long periods of sleep (or reviewing) in between. As such I'm liable to be a wee bit grumpy this month when I look into the six pack of titles presented to me. Will they be shining bright like the evening star or left in the dark and forgotten about. Let's find out...
Black Panther #3 - Hydra's invasion of Wakanda continues, as Jake Hawkins brings three big name assassins to the small African Nation. This title has generally been of quality, if a little bit distressing in regards of some of the visuals (but then who am I to talk) and this issue continues that trend with a beloved (sought of) character being killed. One thing that did confuse my was Sabretooth's appearance near the end of the title, since I was led to believe that the character had been trying to redeem himself. Hopefully we'll get some more answers on this and a lot more in the coming issues.
Rating - 8.5/10 (Evening Star)
C.O.D.E #4 - Last time we looked into C.O.D.E the Great American had done something, now we know what that is as the Phenomenal Goblin awakens in Earth 2K (Marvel 2000). This story very much features up the 'fish out of water' feeling that young Harry seems to be feeling. In addition to that we find that there's at least a few heroes who haven't fallen to the C.O.D.E Methodology. I do have one question however, is the Frog Man (Eugene Patillo) mentioned the same Frog Man as the one who featured in Mirror Mirror: Cross? If Dan can answer that question and more in the following issues then this event title will do nothing but thrive.
Rating - 9/10 (Evening Star)
Fantastic Four #76 - Tobias Christopher and Jason Bruss's tag team continues in the latest issue of Fantastic Four and their continuing battle vs Malice and Fantastic Four. While things seemed like status quo for the majority of the issue there was a few hints that things weren't right which eagle eyed readers would have packed up on. It's only the ending that showed how much things have really changed, opening up a whole lot of questions for the future issues. Questions I'm sure will be answered very soon.
Rating - 8/10 (Evening Star)
New Warriors #30 - And speaking of Tobias Christopher we're taking a massive jump into the latest issue of New Warriors. Once again Tobias deploys the feels, but this time there in the form of mutilated children not to mention the first real images of Valeria's potential path. That said like most of the titles in this release I did have some questions, with the New X Avengers and the Rawhide Kid I'm finding it a little hard to track characters (which will make the Wiki article for this issue very hard to write) but other then that it delivers what we've all come to expect from this series a great read that tugs at your heartstrings.
Rating - 8.5/10 (Evening Star)
X-Factor #10 - The return of the X-Factor team was a surprise when I saw it on the billing, not only that but te tie in to C.O.D,E was a surprise as well. As always its interesting to see characters from the other-side of the Mirror Mirror Verse, with Daken being no different from any of the other characters seen. While this issue didn't set too much of the next series arc, it mentions enough to give us a vague idea on what is coming up very soon.
Rating - 8.5/10 (Evening Star)
Young Avengers #8 - Well this title keeps surprising me even after eight issues in, with the arrival of the Parthenon as they chase a woman who may or may not be Thor's daughter. The whole story furthers the displeasure of the Young Avengers, albeit in two separate ways (one overt, the other subversive), with the adults in their lives. While I can sympathise with the kids a little, they may have bitten off more then they can chew and they haven't even got to the Freezer yet. One thing I can say is that Dan Dolan is going from strength to strength with every issue he gives us.
Rating - 9/10 (Evening Star)

I hope to do some reviews myself when I get home from work.

Okay here are some reviews, only two so far but I'll do more when I get back!!! The first one I read was Jake's Black Panther. Such a good issue, love the way you were clearly influenced by the movie but still drawing from the comics canon. The intermingling was really well done and I hope you further explore that (My biased hope would be to specifically see Man-Ape transition further into his film self who I adored). The one thing that really struck me was how despite the (in-character) use of futuristic technology you never lost the mythic sense of "The Panther", all the gravitas was completely in effect. The other major pro for me was how much of a "team" (in all senses of the word) BP and his allies were. All working together like clockwork, being there for each other on and off the field. Great work! Next is Tobias' New Warriors. A favorite of mine as always. The fun sense of energy of this book is only slightly dimmed by how incredibly creepy I found Riley's backstory (and I mean that as a compliment), how... chilling... (sorry ). The Dooms are fun bad guys and I love the theatrical sense of high class malevolence they bring. The groups' dynamics are just as on point as always, this is such an eccentric mix of character (again compliment) some you'd never think of putting together in a million years and he makes them seem like a PERFECT fit. As a bonus I've always been a big fan of alternate reality fun, long time eXiles reader here, and you can mine such great material here.

Thanks Dan and John for the kind words. Dan I actually loved movie M’Baku as well but figured I’d return him to his more evil guise for the sake of the story. However keep watch as M’Baku has an important arc here

Two more reviews: John's Nero & Hannigan didn't disappoint after all that time watching them buildup in other titles and specials, It was nice to see their first meeting but also a little odd since I'm now so used to thinking of them as a duo, lol. I love tales that mix magic and action and this one did it with a sort of retro charm akin to a 80s high adventure movie like Romancing the Stone or even Indiana Jones. That same current of thrills, humor and chemistry running through it. Very interested to see how it goes as it catches up to the present. Tobias and Jason's Fantastic Four was FANTASTIC indeed I love the subtle sense of foreboding as things quietly seem to mysteriously changing for the team matched with the operatic evil of Malice and Doom. The little in joke about Franklin being portrayed as a child for decades by Marvel was a hoot and a half! Loved the real sense of family you imbue the team with, as that is the hallmark of this title. I think I told you alredy how much I love Johnny and Lyja as a couple but I never mentioned Ben and Alicia, another fan favorite of mine. Alex Power is a great add, the Power Pack have always held a soft spot in my heart. Can't wait to see how the various mysteries and machinations unfold! Keep it up guys!

I was aiming to go for an 80s B-Movie esque tone for this series so it seema mission accomplished. I'm glad everything that made the stand alone titles featuring Nero and Hannigan still runs through this series and hopefully will deliver more great (and not so great moments) through this series soon.

Managed to eek out another:
Dave's C.O.D.E. was such a fun read. I love alternate reality stories (as I said in my NW review, lol) and in particular Mirror Universe/Crime Syndicate style stories where moralities are reversed are a sure favorite. I must also say I loved the use of Dr. Strange especially after seeing Thor: Ragnarok and Infinity War. The cocksure attitude backed up by the competence to carry it is perfect. Harry is a lot a of fun here, I've always been a fan of his as well, and I find myself hoping he sticks around in this world... Cap's offer giving me some hope there. Can't wait to see this saga continue!
