The right honourable Judge Sludge presiding over this bunch of stories brought to me by the people. The writers of these stories are being tried for writing awesome tales, and if found guilty will be sentenced to the M2K mines to excavate more stories. Now on with the trials!!
Black Panther #4 - We may, for whatever reason, missed Jake Hawkins Red Hood in the DC 2000 releases, but he more than makes up for it with Black Panther. The uncontrollable might of Namor is very well written, and while I thought that his might couldn't be topped it looks as if the newest ally of White Wolf, Viper and Hydra may just do that. The conclusion of this arc looks like its fast approaching but from what has already been set in motion it looks like explosive may not be enough to describe it.
Rating - 9/10 (Guilty!!)
Fantastic Four #77 - Tobias Christopher and Jason Bruss start off strong and fast (or should that be hot) considering the onslaught Malice is facing? Tobias's trade mark knack for relationships shine through and Jason brings his own flare to much beloved characters, both of which support the story, indeed the title well. With New Warriors shout outs not to mention the ongoing deposition of Doctor Doom the title has great, indeed fantastic, things in store for the near future I'm sure.
Rating - 9/10 (Guilty!!)
New Warriors #31 - Tobias Christopher's New Warriors series always gets favourable praise from me because it delivers the three core elements of story telling; engaging narrative, continued character development and well written dialogue. The cruel streak of Doomsday continues, with poor Icarus paying the bill plus tip, gratuity and coat check fee. As the story meshes with Fantastic Four I look forward to the continuing tales of the New Warriors, a group of heroes I've learned to love thanks to this brilliant series.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Guilty!!)
Project Hades #9 - Project Hades is back!! Maybe its last months mention of the Minutemen, maybe Dan Ingram has just awoken from hibernation, whatever the case its great to see him and this title (which happens to be the inspiration behind my writing Project Argent) return. The unique characters are enough of a reason to love this title, and the writers intelligent use of his combatants powers makes the action scenes a second reason followed by strong narrative and dialogue. Hopefully we won't have to wait to long to see the next issue, now I know its out there I eagerly await it.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Guilty!!)
X Unlimited #58 - So this felt like an ole Western, and Travis Hiltz nails this kind of story with his six-shooter with ease and enjoyment. As the writer himself confesses, its important to see the bad guys get a win or we can never take them seriously and the Reavers certainly get their win here, despite the odds against them. While nothing may come of this story, I really hope to see more stuff in the X-Universe as well as from the bad guy perspective as well. I mean when the bad guys win...we all win.
Rating - 9.25/10 (Guilty!!)
Young Avengers #9 - A serpent is rising as Dan Dolan prepares for the release of his upcoming title Serpent Society. The writers whole gambit for his Young Avengers series is showing how young heroes are often side-lined, something he showcases wonderfully. With answers finally coming in about the Freezer, the story is really coming on in leaps and bounds and continues to amaze and intrigue. Hopefully this quality story telling will continue in this and all of Dan's upcoming titles.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Guilty!!)
(Yes for those wondering I have gone mad with power)

I don't want to nag, didn't really want to ask but is it possible to get some feedback, or even just some thanks for the reviews. Really feeling like I've done something wrong due to the limited response.

This is really strange I could have sworn I replied to this the same time I replied to the DC update. No idea how I let this slip by me. Thank you for the reviews John and glad you're excited about the Ophiuchus/Freezer plot. I'll try to get some reviews myself if I can before the month is up.

Marvel 2000 #45 - "The Guillotine": I've been intrigued by this character for awhile. In fact, I'd intended on using Guillotine once for another site so when I've been meaning to read and review this issue for awhile. Besides, anything that takes the tale beyond America is a winner to me. One of the things I've noticed in your work is quite a mastery of weaponry, and the ways in which to phrase it. Although occasionally I've felt overwhelmed by the quick-change of weapons, the descriptions of sword-play were very well described. It uplifted the prose of the piece. I liked the emphasis on Jeannine, the Fleur du Mal, and Odette. I think with a story such as this, and the character she is, it's crucial to remember the role her ancestry played and continues to play. It would also allow for a lot of expertise should she reappear, that Jeannine can call upon others from different periods of time. I also liked the minor romantic element with Marc Joubert. He's one of the few canon connections available for her so it worked well. Especially as there's a conflict between his burgeoning feelings and the duty they both have. This was a one-and-done, it established Guillotine and the cruelty that plagues her but she's definitely a character I'd like to see more of. Good work, John.

Many Thanks for the review and a thousand apologies for the late response. This character was a delight to write, as was the Fleur de Mal for that matter. Having grown up on the swashbuckler type filns, sword play is something I always enjoy writing as was taking the action outside the US.
Rest assured we will see Guillotine very soon in the Shadow Games.
