Oh no earlier than usual? I had been desperately attempting to ready an issue in time for the first...
Is there a chance there'll be a second wave of issues for July?

So, John reviews the work of everyone and sometimes he doesn’t get that returned, as I had a spare couple of moments today I decided to read through and review Nero and Hannigan #1-3. And I’m gonna post them all here because that’s easier for me. Nero and Hannigan #1: One of the things I enjoy about John’s work is that he’s unafraid of a bit of world building. He’s established the Enforcer and Zombie Master in other titles, but now we’re seeing them in their elements and with, what I imagine, will be a host of original supernatural threats. Writers shouldn’t be afraid to use their own ideas, there’s only so many times teams can face Magneto. There’s a solid use of research and Norse mythology in grounding the story, and the interactions between Nero/Hannigan are genuinely endearing. There’s a nice divide of morality between them, every duo needs tension. Solid start and buildup, it’s not as by-the-book as some openers are which was refreshing and it took awhile but I got the Dead Paul/Deadpool home which was funny. One query, if Sarah’s a redhead then why is her avatar a blonde? She was the redhead in the Dazzler t-shirt, no? Nero and Hannigan #2: As this is prior to Agents of Argent, it’s refreshing to see Sarah as innocently curious and exploring her innate mysticism. The second issue ups the ante, increasing the urgency of speech and prose to great effect. Whilst Mike is more experienced, Sarah is fresh to this and it’s a solid partnership to build on. “Trial and error”, the default of heroes and vigilantes. It works. Paul’s motivations could be a bit clearer, he was selling this artefact an issue ago so he didn’t intend to use it but all of a sudden he wants to bring on Ragnorak? That’s quite a leap by any standard. I did like that she became afflicted, I presume this will be a moment that leads her to the Zombie Master we’ve previously read. Nero and Hannigan #3: Magical Artefact Containment and Evaluation. M.A.C.E. I like what you did there. It’s very clever. Mike and Sarah could have had more of a tussle before he freed her from Hela’s control, but I get that you wanted to pursue the main storyline after the opener. And a nice bit of research into Chinese mythology with the jiangshi. I like research and reflecting other cultures so that’s a bonus for me. I also liked that you spelled it out for anyone who might not be familiar with the creature, as not everyone would be. It’s reader friendly. Oh wow, Paul’s fate was dark as hell. Hyrm was a bit off to me, the jötunn are warriors and savages. He was too diplomatic and accommodating. Still, I really enjoyed the depth of Zombie Master and the Enforcer’s complex history as they’re seemingly trapped in a time loop of coming together for the good of the world. Interesting stuff. It could be fun to read some of those adventures someday. General: I thought the Mark/Mike thing was a one off since Mike corrected Paul but in #3, the prose refers to him as Mark. This is a pet peeve as a former editor because it’s small and easy to fix. It happened in Agents of Argent with Jennifer/Jenifer too. It breaks attention from the scene because it’s a jarring mistake. It’s just something to watch out for in future issues when you’ve finished your issues and start to edit them. I won’t mention grammar, we’ve spoken before about how English isn’t our first language and that’s fair. It’s only a minor issue and rarely affects the context of the scene. Is this a miniseries or an ongoing? I’m rather enjoying the adventure and there was an openness to the ending.

Firstly a gigantic thank you for the review, it was most appreciated. 😊 Sorry about the name mixup, I don't know where that came from. One thing I have always kep abreast of is my mythology os expect more weird and wonderful creatures to come to the firefront, as well as a few more minor villains. I think the Nero and Hannigan relationship is one that I had to hone in their early interactions before I could start writing this title. Sarah has always been a red head I have no idea why Dave thinks she's blonde. To address Not Quite 'Dead' Paul, the figurehead compels him to get to the ferry, get to Helheim and then Ragnarok. It's a corrupting infulence and he's akin to the kid whose always been bullied suddenly getting a lot of power and then misusing it. The actual lead up to the rise of the Zombie Master comes with the arrival of the Wanderer and his final scheme to turn Midgard into a woodland paradise, which is inhospitable to man, god and demon but more on that later (as in three canonical years later). Yeah Hyrm was cruel to Paul, but at least we know he survives it (see V4H 17). As for the Jotun in question, I write him as a Jotun of myth, akin to the one's who beat Thor by trickery or the one's who prefered to fish or build walls. Hyrm is civilised (plus I was playing God of War at the time which may have made me pro Jotun). Expect to see Hyrm again later as well as Hain, not to mention the 'Van Vile' masterpiece soon. Yep this is an ongoing series chronically Nero and Hannigan from Paul picking up the Lantern all the way to the defeat of the Wanderer. Buckle in because it only gets weirder from here.

Yep this is an ongoing series chronically Nero and Hannigan from Paul picking up the Lantern all the way to the defeat of the Wanderer. Buckle in because it only gets weirder from here. No need for thanks, I've always enjoyed reading your work and if you ever need a hand with getting to grasps with the English language (particularly the written which is where it gets incredibly complex), I don't mind helping you out. I was editing the Omegas until 2015 so I've assisted people with their work in that remit before. Sometimes a friendly hand is all that's needed to help someone come to grasp with it. So, if you're ever unsure about something, then feel free to holler.
That actually excites me because I'm now invested in the wacky and wonderful creatures that Nero and Hannigan are going to cross paths with throughout this series. And thank the Lord that it's ongoing because that means I don't have to worry about losing my fix. I feel like this series is something that will become a figurehead to the supernatural corner of the site. And, I'm here for it. Nero and Hannigan remind me so much of other duos: Boothe and Brennan, Lucifer and Chloe. Each took tentative steps towards becoming the formidable duos those are.
I always imagine Sarah as something more along of the lines of:
I think it kinda merges who she is in this series but also who she'll become in the later series. But, that said, she is difficult to find a headshot for because even this image portrays the hair as too auburn as opposed to the copper I imagine when I think of a redhead. And as a redhead, there's so few characters that represent that so I'm always excited when a new one comes on the scene. Hahah.
I didn't know Dead Paul would be back because I haven't actually read Villains for Hire at this time. His "death", as it were, was very open-ended so it's not something that's hard to imagine. Still, he was decent foil for the opener. The explanation of his motivation is clearer now, I just would have needed to have a little more description in the text. It could have been a simple throwaway line from Sarah along the lines of "The vassal of the figurehead is compelled to bring about Ragnorak." That sums up why he's doing it in a singular line, and she could have read it from the codex prior to losing it. Ah okay, yeah. I see what you're doing with Hyrm now. My perception of the jotunn was slightly different but if you're drawing from another myth, then that's my bad for not being well versed. I'm glad Hain and M.A.C.E. will be returning (and probably, being a thorn in their side) so I'm excited for it to come.
Keep 'em coming, John. You're developing some really good work and your progress as a writer is showing with each now issue.

Firstly I would like to apologise for the (relatively) late posting of these reviews, unfortunately gutter repair took priority over everything else this weekend. With two issues to review let's get rolling, and see if the titles are at the top of the world or are in danger of falling from grace.
Fantastic Four #87 - This tale is largely split into two parts; the political drama of Dr Doom's fall from grace and the heartwarming search for Franklin. In all honesty they are two sides of the same coin with the Doom's being the negative side of the Richard's love for their son. Once again Jadon Bruss and Tobias Christopher deliver a title wirthy of being called...Fantastic.
Rating - 9.5/10 (Top o'the World)
New Warriors #32 - Tobias's solo work in New Warriors (among others) is no less impressive with the focus this issue on Cannonball. With Icarus often stealing the spotlight, it's nice to see the struggles of Sam, as well as the story of Jillian. In all honesty it's heartbreaking, but hopefully Zachery's sacrifice won't have bern for vain, although I do wonder in Creed's people had something to do with that car accident...
Rating - 9.5/10 (Top o'the World)

Some quick shot feedback...
FANTASTIC FOUR #78 - I'm really anticipating someone firing Reed as a father. His priorities are all out of whack. His son has been missing for how long? And he's just now getting around to putting a plan together to find him?
NERO & HANNIGAN #3 - I really enjoy the back and forth between the two main characters. I appreciate that there is not just lot development, but shared character development, too.
NEW WARRIORS #32 - Kind of a bottle episode, but a fun one. I know that Tobias wants to really get into the Guthrie's backgrounds.
VILLAINS FOR HIRE #22 - I just really like Gillette. Don't know why.

NEW WARRIORS #32 - Kind of a bottle episode, but a fun one. I know that Tobias wants to really get into the Guthrie's backgrounds. 'Tis true, I do love the Guthries and we'll see more of Josiah's upbringing in the alternate universe soon. I also have a story planned that tells Josh's story before he came to New York, but that might get pushed back to give the other team members some love. Ms. Marvel & Spider-Girl in particular need some attention, there's a Rawhide Kid arc, there's some tragedy in Alpha's life that'll get some spotlight, the return of Riley and of course Juston's got a storyline coming after the current storyline winds down.

You like Gillette because she's coming out of her shell and being a more compassionate leader then Crossfire ever was. And to be fair that's what I planned for her, shes the 'mum' of this crazy little family and it's quite clear that her teammates love her and she them. As for N&H, well that has been the title I have most fun with. Having an end goal and being largely free of the usual Marvel constraints is somewhat liberating, making writing this even easier
