WOOOO!
New Release!
Let's get started *nod*
Warning: Possible Spoilers.
Quick Fire Thoughts On…
Action Comics #18
Another release, and another issue of Action Comics without fail, which suits me just fine.
The family dynamic of the Kents, by far my favourite part of Action Comics, continues going strong, the Homestead growing a little more crowded with the arrival of Kara Zor-El. It is a guilty pleasure of mine to see either of ‘my two girls’ pop up in other Titles, so I am of course super stocked to start seeing her interacting with her new family, and I was not disappointed with the end result.
I also enjoyed the referencing to the ‘Legion of Doom’ event (yes, I have upgraded it from mini series to event, because I can), not only because it helps create a sense of growth in our shared Universe, but also because how naturally it fit. This is a natural progression for Superman, given what transpired, and it makes sense for the repercussions to be felt here, in the manner that they were.
It feels like a new Chapter is beginning for Clark Kent, a life beyond the Justice League, and I’m curious to see what that means for the Man of Steel.
I can’t wait for the Carnival (next issue?), so I hope Mr. Tobias has been busy typing.
XD.

And we're back...back to work that is as another load of DC 2000 stories are shipped in from parts unknown for inspection. But will these serries clear customs, or will they end up quarantined because of an infestation of weevils. Let's find out...now.
Action Comics #18 - The Kent homestead sure has become busy with the introduction of another Kryptonian. It is issues like this that shows how invested Tobias Christopher is in these characters, including those who are only temporarily in his charge. There's a little action as well, although I'm not as familiar with Superman villains so I'm not sure who 'Spider Driver' is. Also kudos on mentioning recent events. Hopefully we'll see more from DC's first family very soon.
Rating - 9.25/10 (Cleared Customs)
All-Star Comics #6 - Justice League Unlimited was a bright point in me learning English during college. Gavin McMahon's tale has a fearful symmetry to one of those episodes albeit twisted darkly to the worst possible outcome. A thourghlly enjoyable tale, I hope we see more from Huntress very soon.
Rating - 9/10 (Cleared Customs)
Batgirl #10 - Stephanie Brown is fast becoming my favourite DC2000 character, the way Emma Woods writes her is just exquisite. The star of this story however, was the (failed?) relationship between Nicholas Gage and Bette Kane, ine that suggests that there is more going on between the two then we've seen so far. I have no doubt that the writer will explore this relationship soon, and that we'll see more of the Batgirl in the future. *nods*
Rating - 9.5/10 (Cleared Customs)
Girl of Steel #7 - Welcome to Earth Kara, don't worry your in good hands (Superman/Emma Woods). All joking aside, it's hard to adapt to a new country let alone a new planet. Kara's adoption into the Kent family and her night terrors regarding the destruction of Krypton make for an interesting diacotimy, one I hope is explored as the series progresses.
Rating - 9.25/10 (Cleared Customs)
Red Hood:American Nightmare #3 - And finally we come to the Red Hood, and it seems he's got a new target in his site, the King Snake. This series continues to improve in writing style and substance as Jake Hawkins continues to find his feet (and then precede to run off). I do have one question however, is the Richard Dragon mentioned the Diaz version or the older martial arts hero? Either way an entertaining read.
Rating - 8.75/10 (Cleared Customs)

I think Tobias is using Spider Driver as a nod at a certain hero from the other company joke. Remember in Superman TAS episode called "Unity" Kara got some comics and one of them was about a certain other hero they couldn't say on their show.

Actually that villain is based on Lex Luthor's spider droid from the season premiere of the Super Power Team cartoon, the final season of the Superfriends.

As always, thanking you kindly for the kind words, it’s always rewarding to discover than someone other than myself enjoyed the issues I write XD Stephanie Brown has been, arguably, my favourite character to write so far (maybe because she was my first at DC2K?), so I’m glad to hear that she’s proving positive for other peeps as well. She’s been on quite the journey so far, and there’s no end in sight just yet. The scenes between Detective Gage and Bette Kane were a joy to write and, if I do say so myself, ended up being far better than I ever expected them to. This issue, by far, proved to provide them both with far more development than they’ve been able to enjoy up until this point, and I’m far more confident about writing them both going forwards. As for Kara, this issue begins the latest chapter in her life and, originally, was going to open with a much bigger bang to open a new ‘Supergirl’ series. However, as I was plotting and exchanging messages with the awesome Mr. Tobias, I realised more and more that there was a lot of things I wanted to cover concerning her transition to Earth that would get lost amongst large set pieces and bouts of fisticuffs. Action is indeed coming (some of which you can see in the appropriately named ‘Action Comics’), but hopefully peeps will enjoy the two or three issues of slow burn, character driven issues I have planned before she is faced by her next, life affirming challenge!!

How you feel about Batgirl is how I feel about Dare and her little part of DC2K. While LoD came first Aliki was the first long term series for this part of the group that I’d planned

When my issue of Teen Titans comes out, like I said before that Lenny Luthor is going to in my series. And Tobias, he is going to be more of a Black Sheep character, and I will be adding Otis from the original films as more of a henchman with a brain.

This is the last I'll be using Helena but it sets her up for her appearances in Red Hood & the Outsiders! There was definite inspiration from the JLU, just taking it in a slightly different direction. I wanted to show Huntress at her worst, an inversion of a hero if anything. This was meant to be a villains month issue but I didn't finish it in time.

Quick Fire Thoughts on…
All-Star Comics #6
The Huntress takes centre stage in this issue, a character I’ve always had fondness for, but DC as a company doesn’t always seem to know what they want to do with.
This done in one tale wastes no time in both bringing Huntress into DC2K continuity and establishing what seems to be her status quo going forwards, a great deal of information being conveyed without becoming bogged down in the process. I can genuinely say that the ending caught be by surprise, so much so that I was convinced that it must be a bait and switch, only for it to be confirmed as anything but.
Hopefully we will be seeing more of Huntress in the future, as I want to see where these events take her.
I’m overly convinced that Stephanie is overly fond to see another Gotham Vigilante in purple and black, those are Batgirl colours!

It was a fun little one-and-done. Originally that was how it was designed, to set up a status quo for the character, and then I considered an ongoing and then I left it alone for now. See how people reacted to my take on the Huntress. She'll be appearing in Red Hood and the Outsiders so I had to send it over for approval but it all worked out. It gets straight to the point because it was meant to tell a full story in a rapid way, up the ante for the reader, and I'm glad that came through and you weren't bogged down. I can be a bit wordy now and again (normally) but I also really enjoy being wordy because it's world building and I can take the reader inside my characters heads. It would always be interesting to have her meet Stephanie, since Helena is firmly in Batman's bad books, so that's maybe something that could happen in the future! She's been told to leave Gotham (I was going to relocate her into Bludhaven for a bit) so we'll see how it goes!
