One of my favorite past-times is whenever I'm bored or creatively frustrated I like to make Amalgams. Just for the Funz of it Amalgam Comics was so much fun, hell I've even considered trying to start a shared universe Amalgam fanfic site but I have neither the time nor the leadership capabilities lol So I thought in a thread similar to the Dream Team thread, it might be fun just to toss some back and forth for the whimsy of it all heh I'll start: The Liberty Legion+The Freedom Fighters= The Indepence Initiative- Patriot+Uncle Sam=National Spirit, a man empowered by the magical essence of America itself to rise up and defend it from the horrors of WW2. Holds tight to his naive view of the land of the free as the reality of his country becomes more apparent.
- Blue Diamond+Phantom Lady=Blue Phantom, A "saucy" young woman whose invulnerability has led to her trademark risque apparel. Has a laissez-faire attitude as she never truly feels pain.
- Jack Frost+Firebrand=Frostbite, A man with no memory of his past who finds his skin is frozen to the touch. He uses his ice cold touch as a two fisted masked man of mystery, in all senses of the word.
- Miss America+Miss America=Miss America, A young woman whose potential is drowned out by her age, with near godlike powers she struggles to keep them in check to maintain the illusion that she is less powerful than her male colleagues.
- Red Raven+Black Condor=Vermilion Vulture, a young orphan boy found by a race of bird people who lived hidden from the world. Returned to civilization when the war broke out using flying equipment they'd given him.
- Thin Man+Doll Man=Paper Doll, a man who has the ability to change his size and dimensions, allowing him to stretch, grow, shrink, and become nearly one dimensional but he's also losing his ability to return to normal again.
- Whizzer+The Ray=Lightspeed, A man with the ability to become a living beam of light who struggles to maintain his sanity and health when moving past the limits of human awareness.

Sure, I'll play. Don't know if I can come up with something as catchy as 'Vermillion Vulture' though.
League of Secrets( Justice League and Defenders)
Lady Ztrange:( Zatanna + Dr. Strange) A promising young medical student has a near death experience that reveals the mystic force within her! She then takes up the family duty of monitoring the supernatural sites and artifacts of the world. She uses her cover as a celebrity magician and illusionist to travel and investigate. Along the way she has collected a group of assorted misfits and fringe characters that form a loose alliance to help.
Aqua-Mariner:( Aqua-man+ Namor) maybe Paul Everett's parents were a famous oceanographer and a merman or maybe his fisherman grandfather has an active imagination, but he can swim unaided in depths that would crush a normal diver and has an affinity with water that might be mental or he may be an aqumancer, like Lady Ztrange suspects. Whatever the secret is behind his abilities his more then happy to travel and explore the seas and help anyone, man or fish, that he encounters, all while searching for answers.
Silver Lantern: ( Silver Surfer+ Green Lantern) There is a galactic force dedicated to exploring and mapping the cosmos, 'Shinning a light on the infinite darkness'. When one of their scouts, lost and injured is stranded on a small blue planet in a desolate corner of the universe, the silver being needs guidance on how to interact with the human race, while providing his knowledge of the cosmos whenever one of Lady Z's cases ends up being science gone wrong, rather then magic.
Morph the elemental: ( Metamorpho +Hulk) a government project goes wrong and David Mason is doused in a chemical compound that causes him to transform into a a patchwork elemental man-monster. This hulking golem-like creature can transform parts of his body based on the four classical elements: fire, water, earth and air. While Mason has some degree of control over the change, it grows harder each time and he worries that he could be rendered powerless at a crucial moment or be trapped in his monstrous form forever!
Later members include:
Amazon (Wonder Woman+ Valkyrie): Summoning beings from Greek mythology to use in his crimes, a mystic merges them with human hosts. All of this is undone, except for a young college student, Ashley Welles, who is bonded to an amazon warrior. She is now able to summon her for short periods of time and the two very different women have to learn to work together, as well as providing their different skills to the League. Ashley is a natural scholar, and an able researcher to Lady Z, Amazon is a skilled warrior and master archer with a bow and quiver forged by the gods.
Lady Hawk ( Nighthawk+ Hawkgirl): bored society girl becomes a winged sneak thief for thrills, and later trades in a life of crime to instead get her kicks flying and stealing for the good guys.
This was fun.

I love the name 'Ztrange' and just as a matter of personal taste I love that there wasn't any Supes or Bats amalgams, not that I don't like those characters, I just feel like they are overexposed. Okay how about the Avengers plus... the Authority: The Aggressors- Jenny Sparks+Thor:Donna Divine, the reincarnation of a reoccurring mythological sky-father archetype and the first female to hold such a role. Has great, if vague, powers mostly concerning the weather but also a slower rate of aging, mighty strength and flight. Realizing that the world was beyond even a would be goddess' power to save she gathered around herself others whose POV matched her own, that the laws of men weren't as important as the well being of the earth and it's inhabitants.
- Jack Hawksmoor+Captain America:Captain Wherever, A former superhero who faded from the public eye shortly after WW2. Traumatized by the war and what he found there, he was only damaged more by his own power: that to bond with the zeitgeist and culture of whatever country he is in. The voices of the nation streaming through his mind, offering him physical strength and a long life but also the nightmares of the masses as well...
- Apollo+Hercules:Phoebus Apollo, seemingly the actually god Apollo of Greco-Roman myth. A lone beacon of some positivity on such an angst ridden and often violent team. Hailing from above the world of man, he has no problem howevor positive he may be in disregarding the laws and as a god of myth his wrath can be "biblical" when needed.
- Midnighter+Black Panther:Night Leopard, the latest in a long line of African shamans who used an herb to see events before they happen and push their physical attributes to their peak, he however had no interest in such spiritual pursuits and became a mercenary. He was experimented on by a inter-governmental war committee and the procedure augmented the herbs still in his system and he found he could predict his opponents every move. Recently revealed to be in a romantic relationship with Apollo.
- The Doctor+Scarlet Witch:The Witch, a young gypsy woman who during a mystic ritual tapped into the power of the long line of witches in her family line and gained power sometimes beyond even her own control. Sometimes uses drugs to cope with the stress of holding in her reality altering abilities, which has caused her to become somewhat unpredictable much to her teammates chagrin.
- The Engineer+Iron Man:The Inventor, Angela Stark was always brilliant which was of course encouraged by her family, teachers and all around her but upon her parents death her ideas became obsessions to a clinical degree. Her inventions took over her life first metaphorically and then quite literally as she began to implement medical devices on herself to "improve" herself. This quickly got out of hand and she soon found herself separated from the world that had made her so neurotic by an armor of nano-tech that she could no longer live without.
- Swift+Wasp:Sting, a Vietnamese socialite who always felt she was special. Not just for her fashion sense or charity work but some other indescribable something, she soon found herself followed by monks at events and in the street and found out why. She had been born from a giant egg as the result of prophesy about a "queen bee" to lead the hive of man. They awakened her insect-esque abilities such as winged flight, extra-human senses and an actual stinger. Since she is relatively the weakest of the team she attempts to make up for it with enthusiasm.

I thought about combing Batman and Nighthawk, just to be cute, but my team needed another girl.
I gotta say you are better at the naming. I just combine the two names until I get something I like. That's what slows me down. I have another two or three ideas, but am stalled at the 'He's a mix of so and so and this guy. What to call him?' stage.

Alright, here's my little contribution. The F4 and... Batman.
Fantastic Knights
Thomas Richards witnessed his parents be murdered, leaving him a young billionaire. Already a young genius, Thomas put all of talents and money toward science in an effort to raise mankind above it's seedy, murderous self to try to 'cure' mankind of its greedy ways. Graduating at age 12, Reed started traveling the world to learn from the greatest minds humanity had to offer to further his research, along with his schoolmate and best friend, Richard Grimm, a young gymnast whom Thomas had convinced his faithful butler Herbie to adopt so that Richard wouldn't be sent to sent to New Gotham's insanely brutal foster care system after the slaying of his own parents by the Yancy Street Gang.
Traveling the world, Thomas and Richard soon met the young and beautiful Selena Storm, who moonlighted as a petty thief to support her younger brother, Jason Storm, a rebellious pre-teen who desperately wanted to live fast and die young.
A few years later, when a cosmic anomaly was detected by one of Thomas's labs, Thomas thought it would be the key to creating something that could unite all mankind and bring peace to the world. Taking a rocket into space just above Earth (with Jason sneaking along), Thomas, Selina, Richard and Jason were bombarded with cosmic energy, giving them incredible powers. Thomas soon realized they could these powers to benefit mankind while still researching and exploring with his family.
Stretch-Man (Batman + Mr. Fantastic) - Thomas was given incredible elastic powers, and along with his incredible intelligence, became a brilliant crime-fighting detective with his family to clean up New Gotham and ultimately the world.
InvisiCat (Invisible Woman + Catwoman) - Selina was granted the power of invisibility, and with her already cat-like reflexes, could become a world-class thief if she wished, but retired her criminal activities knowing that Thomas offered security for her and her brother. But that doesn't mean that she doesn't use her powers to have fun, even creating a security business to test alarm systems for the rich.
Night-Thing (Thing + Nightwing) - Richard was transformed into a hulking beast, forever crushing his dreams of ever returning to gymnastics. But he still uses his powers to help those in need, even falling for the disabled Barbara Masters, step-daughter of the villainous Clay Master.
FireWing (Johnny Storm + Red Hood)- Jason was given the abilities to create and control fire, becoming a hot-headed superhero in the process. The anti-hero of the group, Jason continues to push the line of what's acceptable of a hero, and is recklessly suicidal for reasons that not his sister can understand.
Ultimately Thomas and Selina would give birth to twins, Timothy and Damian Richards, who seemed to be worlds apart as they grew up, although both possessed superman psychic abilities that could change and manipulate the world on a whim, with Tim often having to keep Damian in check.

It's something I've struggled with too but ultimately I always try to make my amalgams able to stand on their own. Like 'Shatterstarfire' it's cute and ultimately it worked for them but no comic company would actually name their hero that without it being a mix of Shatterstar and Starfire. So instead come up with an identity that would actually exist independently but still works as a mix.

Here's another.
I wanted to focus on a union of opposites. So I took the retro and "classic" America's Best and merged them with the grim and gritty original X-Force making...
America's Worst
A vigilante group made up of misfits and oddballs, dubbed the worst of what America has to offer by the “ruling elite” as they call them. The establishment that they intend to overhaul and overthrow.
Tom Strong+Sunspot: Tom Sun, Tomas da Costa was raised by a pseudo scientific couple who tried to use modern science to unravel the secrets of the Aztec "apocalypse" calendar leading them to accidentally recreate/rediscover an ancient plant said to be sacred to the succession of sun gods. So lost in the mire of their "quest" they without logical sense began to ingest the herb, not knowing they were expecting their first child. Tomas grew strong and as he reached adulthood he seemed to possess powers far beyond those of mortals, not only great strength and intellect but seemingly the ability to channel the power of the sun itself. In a manner similar to photosynthesis he needs no food or water, and seems to age at a much slower rate the longer he's a alive. Rash and a bit arrogant he went out into the world leaving his parents to wonder if they had indeed created the very seed of the destruction they wished to prevent.
Promethea+Shatterstar: Hermes Trismegistus, a strange "deity" from another plane of existence, this androgynous warrior seems to follow the trope of Orange and Blue morality, following his/her own set of rules that are totally incomprehensible to us mere mortals, only saying that they serve at the pleasure of those who watch, whatever that means. Possessing varied powers allowing for seemingly endless feats of wonder they are an indispensable asset but also an unpredictable one. The eccentric and powerful being may in fact be some kind of otherdimensional entity but it's also been shown they may in fact be a living fantasy brought to life by the shared dream of two doomed young lovers: Ben Bangs and Sophie Russell, in mutual comas due to a drug overdose, after being used as the "entertainment" at an underground party for the spineless and the perverse.
Cobweb+Domino: Gossamer, a seemingly immortal mercenary who’s ability to rise to the top of any situation, no matter how dire has earned her nickname, well that an her penchant for “clothing” that could barely pass as such, bawdy and free to the extreme as befits her personality. Joined by her assistant and lover Clary Cat (Clarice+Copycat), they seem to flit through the centuries without age, pictures of them dating back to the penny dreadfuls of old and beyond. Little do the others suspect the strange symbiotic nature of theirs that explains this ability, with a pattern of ritualistic sex and death that leads each woman to “become” the other in turn: sometime the mistress, sometimes the slave.
First American+Rictor: Saint Andreas, A man made mysterious by his own delusions rather than any prestige. He presents himself as a deranged nigh-homeless madman, claiming to be the personification of every disaster to ever occur on American soil. Naming himself after the great fault line that may one day break the country apart. His rambling is backed up by his power to shake the very ground beneath them at will but his own bad behavior has caused him to be the pariah in a group of pariahs. A malignant sour representation of the disaffected youth, willing to let the country fall apart at the hinges.
USAngel+Boom Boom: Fireworks, the flamboyant and superficial young woman who swanned in with Saint Andreas and was at first the only one who really spent much time with him until she quickly leeched on to the others, trying anything to be “in”. Her explosive powers would make her a formidable opponent if she ever really tried to be good at it… but she’d frankly be more interested in getting on TMZ and getting a date with Justin Bieber.
Greyshirt+Feral: Jackie Ripper, AKA Frankie Callasantos. A damage woman who went from a victim of child abuse, to a gangbanger, to a prostitute, to an inmate and finally a vigilante. When her father used to beat her he would use an old family legend as an excuse, that the women of their family had the “jaguar spirit” in them. To her it was just an excuse for a beating but it was only when years later she lashed out at a john who went too far with her with claws that burst forth from her hands. She fine-tuned the creature inside her while in prison and once she was released she decided to change herself, take back the night. Dressing as a man in a large trench coat, a scarf over her fangs and fedora to cover her hair she took a name inspired by a famed killer of women in order to take back her power and her agency, lulling the men she deems guilty until the very last moment when she unleashes herself.
Splash Brannigan+Warpath: Warpaint, when her brother John was killed while protesting further abuse of Native lands by industrialists, Daisy Proudstar fueled her anger and pain into her career as political cartoonist until she too was fired for being TOO political as if that wasn’t ridiculous given her profession. Left destitute and angrier than ever she lashed out and began to destroy her art supplies till some strange kind of psychic manifestation began to occur, conjuring the “spirit” of her brother from the very paints themselves. This over exaggerated Apache warrior vision took on a life of it’s own as it began to rage against the establishment, leaving Daisy with only the flimsiest amount of control over her “creation” and having to sometimes count on her “teammates” to help keep him in line.
Jack B. Quick+Cannonball: Jumping Jack Flash, a young country bumpkin who completely went against the expected of the farmers and hillbillies more at home on an episode of COPs or Jerry Springer by his sheer brilliance, so great it even managed to break free from the disenfranchised education system of the south. Though the means at his disposal didn’t always meet what his mind was capable of giving him often literally explosive results. He used this to his advantage however in his first and favorite creation a pair of rocket boots (that almost never leave his feet) to lift himself out of his circumstance and into the world. Now he used his rather volatile inventions to blow the outdated and illogical society to its core… whether they want him to or not.
Johnny Future+Cable: The Dystopian, the enigmatic man who fell through time and brought them all together. He is as different to them as they were to the “normal people”, as every time they saw their supposed “leader” he seemed to be a slightly different person: another version, from yet another parallel timeline… constantly changing even as he stubbornly remained the same and worse each future seemed to be even more harrowing than the last. Myopic and overzealous, all that matters to him is the mission, no time for your feelings or to enjoy the moment, for he knows every moment is yet another that brings his nightmare closer. Even as he tries desperately to change the horrors of the times only he has seen, he struggles to have empathy for those around him as from his point of view they are dead already.

You know, I'm supposed to be finishing an issue of Ghost Rider. If golightly yells at me for being late, I'm blaming you.
Outlaws for Hire( Power man and Iron Fist+Green Lantern/Green Arrow) A pair of misfits, trying to find redemption, offer their services to help others.
Guardian:(Luke Cage+Hal Jordan) Ex-con finding it hard to get back on his feet, takes one last questionable job, and when it goes wrong, ends up on the run and accidentally in possession of a ring, which might be alien tech, or could be magic. It grants him a forcefield, that makes him invulnerable and a level of enhanced strength. His smarts are street smarts, and most of his plans involve hitting the other guy until he doesn't get up.
Iron Arrow ( Iron Fist+Green Arrow): raised in a ninja temple, he became an archer whose skills are so great to seem almost supernatural. Rebelling against the dark motives of his teachers, he struggles to walk an honorable path, as well as keep his oath not to kill ever again. Smarter then his reluctant partner, he has warrior skills and cunning, but lacks social skills and feels very uncomfortable when in the normal world.

Now they just need Gemstone (Jewel/Jessica Jones+Star Sapphire) and Knightbird (Misty Knight+Black Canary) to match them! I was thinking something like that, but couldn't get it to click. Though I was leaning towards Misty +Sapphire and Black Canary+ Colleen Wing. But, that just means I "invented" the Canary from the CW TV show...

Meh I was never a fan of the Iron Fist show replacing Misty with Colleen, I LOVE Misty and Danny together.
Now how about...
The non-team from Marvel Knights with the non-team from Watchmen (AKA The Crimebusters!)
Knightwatch
Nite-Devil (Nite-Owl+Daredevil) - Daniel Murdoch was never a bruiser like his boxer father, Hollis. The older man called himself the Devil of the night in the ring and eventually out of it as well; as a vigilante. Daniel wanted to live up to his dad but was always more brain than brawn and devoted his studies to engineering and innovation. That is until his father was brutally murdered by hoods who wanted to make a name for themselves by killing an aging "mask" as the heroes were called. Daniel tried to take up we're his father left off but was injured his first night out leaving him with a permanent visual impairment. He decided to try again but do it his way; suiting up in a high-tech costume and employing numerous gadgets including special goggles fixing and even enhancing his sight. A new Devil of the night was born.
Thoth (Ozymandias+Moon Knight) - Adrian Specter was considered to be the smartest man in the world, at least by himself he was. Than after an archeological dig in Egypt something changed. The roguish braggart he had been vanished, replaced by a stoic man of few words. Something else that changed was that the rest of the world started to agree with his past assessment of his own intelligence. He and his titular company began to produce wonders, one genius idea after another. To those that could get a straight answer out of him, Specter claimed that his ideas ebbed and flowed with the phases of the moon. He got tired of having only one outlet from which to improve the world and created a costume for himself to become one of the "masks", his design was heavily inspired by ancient Egypt and he called himself Thoth; a lunar god of intelligence and thought. Thought some worry his god complex doesn't stop at just a name and that like the moon he too hides a dark side.
Guilty Conscience (Rorschach+The Punisher) - Francis "Frank" Kovacs was the son of a prostitute and a corrupt cop. His father would visit his mother most nights, and Frank would only really ever see him if he peaked through his mother's bedroom door. One night, enforcers for a mob boss that his father owed money too burst through the door instead of him. His mother screamed that his father was not there but they killed her anyways and all Frank could do was watch. When the police showed, including his dad, he ran to him for help but to his horror; his father didn't recognize him and had no idea he had fathered a son never mind any willingness to acknowledge it now that he knew. Frank became an angry man who devoted himself to helping those who had been let down and abused by the evil and "good" alike. When he had a chance to study his targets he would adorn his face with a mask made to resemble their victims, wanting them to be recognized as he wasn't, when it was a more spur of the moment move he would wear a simple skull mask.
Silk Spider (Silk Spectre+Black Widow) - Laurie Romanova was that kind of daughter that was more common that you'd think that both followed in her mother's footsteps and yet rebelled against her at every chance. For starters she infuriated her mother by reverting her surname to the traditional Russian whereas her mother had changed it to Roman to avoid the Cold War stigma. Though this didn't stop her from taking her mother's place in an American intelligence program. Where her mother had focused on her womanly wiles to unearth secrets, Laurie was more versatile in her skill set, including several fighting styles but also a healthy dose of sex appeal. She took her mother's old code name: the Silk Spider but not her dated risque costume that wasn't exactly combat ready. She is one of the only government sanctioned "masks" which is ironic considering how little she is trusted by both her employers and her fellow crimefighters. Though she has recently begun a relationship with Nite-Devil that is both mutually beneficial and emotionally ambiguous.
Rapture (Doctor Manhattan+Dagger) - Tandy Osterman was an intern at a nuclear research facility, she was also hiding a pretty serious heroin addiction. It may have been the influence of those drugs that caused her accident, due to chance or her own error she became trapped in a chamber that soon flooded with radiation, leaving her burned and dying. In the hospital she began to have semi-religious visions, and during a particularly vivid one she burst into pure light. Reforming herself into a vaguely feminie shape the now pure energy Osterman became a symbol of salvation in dark times. Her nigh god-like powers and outlook scared many but also drew many to her. She had great power over energy and matter as well as the ability to see into the thoughts and souls of others and cleanse them. She believes that nuclear energy is the fire god spoke of in the bible that will heal the world as it come to an end. She glorifies this thought by having a hydrogen symbol over her right eye, her only distinguishing characteristic in her luminescent form. The other "masks" are afraid of her, as she is the only one with true superpower.
Jim Crow (The Comedian+Luke Cage) - Eddie Lucas was a thug and a gang member and a mistreated one at that but after repeatedly managing to walk away from several fire fights with the law he earned a reputation of being "bulletproof". This reputation caused him to get some notoriety both good and bad and to rise through the ranks of his gang. When they were busted he quickly showed he still held a grudge about his past abuse at his gangmembers hands and gave evidence against them all. He wouldn't settle for getting a deal though, he wanted a paycheck. So they gave him a costume and had him infiltrate another violent criminal group: the "masks" themselves. Called an Uncle Tom, he embraced this dressing in exaggerated revisit stereotypical garb as his "costume" apparently reveling in a joke only he found funny, this evolved into attire reminiscent of blaxploitation films and finally into far black leather gear more similar to what he wore in his gang day than he'd care to admit. Though he may play the irreverent ne'er-do-well this covers a cruel and sadistic underbelly.
Master Hero (Captain Metropolis+Shang Chi) - Melson Shang never fit in anywhere. He never really had friends and being only raised by his white mother, he was looked down on by her well to do family as a "halfbreed". Feeling alone and ostracized he joined the army where camaraderie and bonding were apparently an inherent part of the experience. He trained hard and fought well but one day while stationed near the outskirts of China he was ambushed and injured, he waited for his fellow soldiers to find him proved useless and he figured he had once again been abandoned (when actually he had been mistakenly determined to have been a casualty of the skirmish). He was eventually found by an ancient master of martial arts who nursed him back to health and taught him all he knew. With this knowledge he found his way back to the states only for his mother to be on her deathbed. After one last farewell she died leaving him all the money his estranged relatives had been eyeing in his absence. He used these new funds to bankroll a vigilante career mixing patriotism, Asian influence and military tactics into a new persona called Master Hero. Despite that his fellow "masks" considered him corny and something of a "goody goody" he gathered them together and suggested joining as a team to rid the world of crime as partners! They all promptly laughed and left, leaving him once more alone.

That's just one of my standard fanfic jokes. Whenever people talk about doing a dark, serious, mature etc take on a character, I jump in "Yeah, me too I have this great idea for a dark political story where Captain Atom and Blue Beetle...!"
I do have ideas for both teams, but separate from each other.
Have notes for a FF/JLA amalgam, but can't decide which versions I want to combine.

This has been a fun little experiment.
I keep thinking about DC Tangent imprint, where you get just the name of a character and then create something new. If we ever run out of ideas here, that could be the next thread.
