Witchcraft! Witchcraft I say. This release turned me into a newt, and with my ‘ickle salamander fingers I type this review. But will these titles be a spellbinding success or a cheap trick. Hocus Pocus, lets find out now.
Beware Spoilers and you know...angering the wizard.
1970s Champions - Jeff Melton brings an old fashioned rumble to Marvel Mayhem in this title. While a little hard to follow (my fault no background reading done) and a little static in regards to the action, the issue sets up what is to come quite nicely. Definitely something I’d be interesting in re-reviewing after properly having caught up.
Rating - 7.5*/10 (Spellbinding Success)
Black Panther #9 - Black Panther mixes style and substance, and clearly shows off Jake Hawkins’ skill in writing small teams/solo protagonists. With Bullseye out of the running, it looks as if an even more deadly foe approaches. Hopefully we’ll see some more classic Black Panther villains soon as well. Definitely something I look forward to reading every time it appears.
Rating - 9.25/10 (Spellbinding Success)
Deadpool #9 - Deadpool should be fun and Liam Goncert’s latest issue doesn’t disappoint. Even the villain seems to be have much mirth, with own Taskmaster and Cable acting as the straight men of the issue. With a gleeful chuckle, I eagerly await what’s to come from this title.
Rating - 9/10 (Spellcasting Success)
New Warriors #37 - Not only is there a significant bit of world expansion in this issue, Tobias Christopher sets up a sinister set of events for the rest of the arc. The little mundane elements never fail to surprise and while all the entries here were excellent, New Warriors feels like the best of the rest. Until Pigeon People strive to take vengeance on their consumed brethren, keep crankin’ them out Tobias.
Rating - 9.5/10
Serpent Society #3 - Firstly I must mock how Parisian Serpent themed villain Snakebite for not appearing in this issue, take that Snakebite you loser. Dan Dolan is anything but however, regardless of what he writes he creates brilliant stories and he’s especially stressing the unknown as yet, connection these new serpents share. Hopefully we’ll see more twists and turns from thisss sinister tale.
Rating - 9.25/10 (Spellbinding Success)
