So firstly I'd like to apologise for the lateness of this and a few other reviews. Unfortunately I was stranded after the team I work with was forced to isolate in a hotel over Christmas. With that said and done I'll be working backwards, starting with this release (although the Christmas stories will be reviewed separately. So onto the reviews starting with...
Batgirl #18 - I've made it no secret that I like Emma Woods's Batgirl series, and as of the dawn of 2021 the title retains its quality. With the Blinded by Indifference arc concluded, we get to see the titular heroine breach the inner circle not only of the Inferno, but of the Bat Family. The ending in particular and the ongoing evolution of the dynamic between characters is well written and entertaining. Hopefully we'll see a lot more of the title in 2021, as while Batgirl has scored a win in story, she still has plenty of enemies encircling her.
Girl of Steel #13 - And we move onto the second half of the Woods double bill with the ongoing Eradication Mandate. With more characterisation, Origin fits the bill of a well-intentioned extremist, and as a human (apparently) it is easy to hate him but see the desperation of its actions. While Emma has always written heroes well, she's making the villains just as fleshed out. As with Batgirl let's hope we see more of the Girl of Steel in the near future as the Eradication Mandate moves to fruition,

With my illness behind him, I'm hoping to knuckle down and commit to the same target I wanted to hit last year, which is both series to have one issue released each month all the way to December! One month down, just eleven more to go XP

So as promised around I'm finally getting to the Christmas offerings from Patrick Moore and Travis Hiltz. I know I'm late but think of it this way, I'm early for this year's festivities. Without further ado lets head into the stories.
Here Comes the Doll Squad by Travis Hiltz - An interesting piece that groups an obscure alternative trinity to fight against the most diabolic of foes (yes puppets are evil - see last issue of Nero and Hannigan for context). In all fairness this story could have stood at any time of year, but works well as a Christmas piece simply because of the more small stakes of the battle. While fictional, I suspect every parent has had a battle like this (or one that seems like it) to get what their child desperately wants, with an unstoppable horde bearing down on them. Let's give Travis a big cheer for brining the plight of these small heroes to the forefront.
Harley Quinn's Classic Christmas Special by Patrick Moore - I don't like Harley Quinn, there I've said it. My reasons are my own, even though the recent TV series has endeared her a little more to me. That said with the Auld Lang Syne spirit I'll look at this story with a neutral eye...
This story was crazy and appears even more insane every time I read it. As some one who grew up (at least in the beginning of my life) behind the Iron Curtain I must sat I'm unfamiliar with some of the characters that appeared (sans Grinch). While short it did sum itself up very nicely as the dream of a child (I'm assuming this is a young Harley) hopped up on sugar. All in all a fitting end to a crazy year.

But wait I here you ask, what of your threat to write a Christmas story John. Well that story has been under construction for two years and is more of a series right now. It's likely the Feast of 12 will never be finished but here's hoping. Roll on 2021 and Šťastný nový rok to you all.

Thanks, Johncheese.
That's fine that you don't like Harley Quinn, but after being the Joker's punching bag since Batman TAS, she still acts like a nut job. But I don't like her becoming DC's version of Deadpool recently.
I wanted to do a callback to my childhood of classic Christmas cartoons from Rankin/Bass like Frosty and Herbie the Elf, even mentioning the crap that was the Star Wars Holiday Special.
