Getting back into the swing of things with some reviews!
Avengers #73: Steve Crosby wraps up a bunch of plotlines here and does a great job jugggling each one. Most important is the return of Vision, I really enjoyed the conversation between the two Visions and Wonder Man. Thanos also felt like a big threat that took everybody on hand to take down. We get a few teases of what might come with the time-jump and I can't wait to see where Steve takes us next!
Captain America #23: While there are a lot less plots to balance in this issue, Crosby still does a terrific job bringing Cap's current arc to a close. I really enjoyed getting to see Jack Flagg, Falcon, and Free Spirit get a chance to shine. I thought the final confrontation was handled very well and I'm interested to see what new direction Cap is heading in.
Max 2000 #60: Mac Gargan is a villain, that much we know, but this story by Travis Hiltz manages to make him a very compelling protagonist. I enjoyed the detective aspects of this and I could easily see a whole series based around Scopion: P.I. I particularly enjoyed the sequence with Gargan and The Owl and the disregard Scorpion shows for his "allies." All in all, this was a fun story with a surprisingly upbeat ending.
X-Men: Mutant Underground #4: Paige McMahon returns with a new issue featuring some of the most well-known X-Men in a new mode. I had to refresh myself with previous events going in and was rewarded with some great sequences. Kitty getting involved with the debate is exteremly on-brand for her and I loved that it didn't end with the crowd accepting her point of view as that would have felt cheap. I also enjoyed the confrontation between Warren and Colussus as it gave us a little of the classic X-Men team member conflict. This was a welcome return for McMahon and I'll be diving into the next issue shortly!
Doom Patrol #13: Travis Hiltz's Doom Patrol has become one of the centerpieces of DC2K and this issue is a perfect example of why. We open with a fun fight sequence that sets up a troubling direction for our new Robotman and continue on from there. There is a good amount of table-setting in this issue but none of it feels tedious thanks to the great characters. I particularly enjoyed the bits with Flex Mentallo. We leave off with an exciting cliffhanger and I can't wait for where this goes.
