Over the years, Peter Parker has played the field some, having serious relationships with the five names above. The question is, who did everybody like more? The one Peter ended up with? The "what if she hadn't died" blond? The Daily Bugle co-worker he later had an affair with? The kinky kitten who preferred he kept the mask on? Or the lady he drove nuts?
Thoughts? Opinions? Anybody I might have missed? For the record, I'm not counting the Burglar's daughter that Ben Reilly dated, nor the brief crush Liz Allan had on Peter. Though that crush may have been the root for her current obsession.... ahh, the old Parker luck.

I always liked Deb Whitman. I don't understand why they needed this Carlie chick. They just had to One More Magic good ol' Deb into not-crazy-anymore and you essentially have the same character, just blonde instead.
Then again, my judgment may be clouded by my love for the '90s cartoon.

Gwen was Peter's true love. End of story. I'm kind of ticked that people on the street only know MJ as Spidey's girlfriend, when actually Peter was robbed of the love of his life almost fifty years ago.
So I voted Gwen. But, of course, I've been building up to a much different choice in my series...

I've talked to Dave about this before, and my personal favorite love interest for Pete has always been the Black Cat. I think he needs a woman to keep him on his toes and who's just as capable as protecting him as he is her. With Felicia around, things would rarely get boring for him and would definitely be more adventurous. And hey, what can I say? I have a thing for unpredictable, semi-unstable, and slightly untrustworthy women. They're just so much fun. ;D

Ditto on what Cory said. Spidey works better with the escapism that the Black Cat provided.

Yeah, Cory, the Black Cat is anything but stable. Years back there was a What If story by Busiek that explored a deeper relationship between Spider-Man and Black Cat. It did not end well, mainly because she wasn't as careful with Peter's identity as he is. But what a ride it must have been before the crash.
Personally, I always liked Betty. I've always thought she was the most entertaining to read, if nothing else. Even though she always visit Aunt May at the hospital, the old bitch kept trying to fix Peter up with MJ. At the drop of a hat her self-esteem would plummet and she'd wonder who Peter was running away from her to be with. An attempt at making Peter jealous got her into a tragic marriage with a guy she cheated on twice. Most everybody she cares about has died or been crippled in some manner. Its no wonder the woman got sucked into a cult! But ultimately she persevered, grew into an investigative reporter, and while lately not much has been done with her in the comics she's become one of my favorite characters to read in fanfiction. Meriades did a great job with her at another site, and Bryan Locke has done very well with her here.

I think I have that issue! Where Peter hooks up with Silver Sable.

It was actually two issues but yeah, it ends with that. After recent events I dug through my collection and read them again. Loved the Kraven divergence. Why Kurt Busiek never wrote Spider-Man in modern continuity I'll never know.
By the way, how crazy is it that Flash Thompson often ended up with Peter Parker's leftovers? First Liz Allan brushed him off to pursue Peter, Flash briefly dates MJ in college, then he hooks up with Betty and Felicia.

I ain't votin cuz I don't think any of them are that interesting. Sorry. Black Cat is okay but she's the wild card he'll never really stay with (like always) and Betty was a nice little fling and it would've been cool if she stayed and they actually remained good friends with a weird history. But they didn't.
MJ & Gwen are interchangeable and their personalities are blank so, really, they can be anyone.
/end rant about boring stereotypical girlfriend characters that inevitably end up in fridges. (!!!!)

I'm one of the old saddos who loves Gwen Stacy, it's hard to describe why but Kurt Busiek nailed it perfectly in Marvels./end rant about boring stereotypical girlfriend characters that inevitably end up in fridges. (!!!!) I've never understood the phrase as the only girlfriend I can recall who actually ended up in the fridge was Alex DeWitt. I'm probably missing a few from the independent publishers I expect.

I've never understood the phrase as the only girlfriend I can recall who actually ended up in the fridge was Alex DeWitt. I'm probably missing a few from the independent publishers I expect. It's not really a literal thing, it's the concept. Killing off the girlfriend is a cheap and easy way to somehow making the male character better and stronger. They turn girlfriends into messy plot devices because they were never "real characters" anyway. Refer also to Spoiler, Jade, Karen Page, buncha others. I don't mind when they kill/abuse/whatever a female character, cuz they do plenty to the guys, but have it mean something to THAT character as well.

I've never understood the phrase as the only girlfriend I can recall who actually ended up in the fridge was Alex DeWitt. I'm probably missing a few from the independent publishers I expect. It's just a metaphor. It refers to the violent, sometimes graphic, injury or murder of a female character as a matter to antagonize a male hero. Sort of like a modern day "damsel in distress."

Man, that was a great character right there. Cool costume, interesting back story (Cluemaster for a father. How can that not lead to cool storylines...), and kilt off for no good reason. And by Leslie Thompkins no less...Jesus. Anyway, I voted for MJ. Why? Cause out of all of those above...she's the one with the most personality, at least IMO. Plus, hey, she kicks ass in SPIDER-GIRL...

For me, there was no one to top Gwen. I like Mary Jane, but Gwen always seemed more committed to Peter than anyone else, and the stories with those two are great ones, which bring back fond memories.

I love Gwen, she's probably been the best match for Peter.
That being said, the Black Cat was always my favorite of Peter's love interests, at least from a character standpoint. So I voted for her.
