Ok now was it just the fact I've been reading it again recently (finished today) or was this issue very Morrison on Doom Patrol? It's also of a similar tone/ level of the fantastic with an idea for Agents of Atlas I've been tossing about trying to shape (after their brilliant mini.)
It was a really funny issue with some off the wall humour and concepts. Howard, the crystal and Aquarian make an odd odd but greatly fun team. I find something hilarious about Howard giving him the orders.
Are there to be more members? or is it just these guys?
So yeah now onto the bad...well not bad per say about this issue but a fear. I hope that this series will follow on with the lines of Morrison's Doom Patrol and whilst being irreverant and having many funny moments have it playing for serious money. Still plenty of action and really tangible moments of fear and dread at what could happen rather than just comedic like Nextwave or such (as much as I enjoyed that series....it has it's place out of continuity).
Anyway I'll be sure to tune in next time to see a kick ass fight, more comedy and off the wallness and hopefully a sense of some true heroism...or grusome fear.

Glad you enjoyed it, firstly.
Having never read Morrison's Doom Patrol (feel free to throw things and hiss, folks, but I've just never gotten around to it) I can't say much about that. But there will indeed be darkness. Not darkity-dark-darkness (I'm not Munn, after all.), but darkness. This series will hopefully be a bit of a fan-letter to Steve Gerber with some nice satire wrapped up in the funny.
If I can pull it off. We'll see, won't we?
As for the team, there will be quite a few new members joining over the next several issues as Howard pulls together the strands of destiny and gives them a good yank.

I can only assume another member of this new "Gerbenders" line-up will be Man-Thing ... and I look forward to seeing how you work the requisite "Giant Size" jokes into it, Josh.

Nope. No Hulk, no Nighthawk, No Val, no Hellcat, no Namor, no Silver Surfer...barely any Doctor Strange. Instead, I will simply say...Shaun. Immigrant from a distant land. American now, by the grace of the Stars & Stripes. A lover of freedom and a free-lover. A...man...for all seasons. He will be manager of the Kwikee Burger. And then, perhaps, President. Also, he can fire a death-beam. From his face. A true American hero.

Ha! For a second I thought you were going with Shaun from SHAUN OF THE DEAD. Now that would be interesting.

Yeah, I know, I'm late to the party:
Volume 2 of Defenders, is more a stealth Howard the Duck comic, but once you get past that, it's kind of brilliant.
Weird and trippy, while digging deep into the corners of the MU and making use of the obscure history. The cast, which feels like a weird stunt, has slowly been developed past their gimmicky beginnings. Always been a fan of Howard and Bev's loving, yet dysfunctional relationship.
Fun that Doctor Strange comes across as uncomfortable and out of his depth, while Howard is very matter of fact, as this is the kind of weird crap he always had to deal with.
If you are a defenders fan, this may feel like a letdown, but if you a fan of 70's Steve Gerber comics, than you should enjoy the ride, like I did.

I would like to see a Howard the Duck series here, just to make Howard great again.
