I'm a huge fan of the New Universe, seeing it as Jim Shooter's testing ground for what eventually became the Valiant Universe (I could go on at length about the similarities in his version of Solar and his Starbrand but I'll spare you). So I was looking forward to this.
Interesting to set it in 1991, keeping things moving from the end of the real New U. Given that this is around 20 years after the debut of the New U, I expected something set "now". The early parts of the issue are full of good exposition about the history but it lacked dramatic momentum for awhile as it felt like a textbook lesson about the New Universe. When things settled down and became more about Ken Connell, this improved. Things seem to be heading in a more four-color superhero direction than the old New U. ever did, but that's okay. I can tell that Ken's personality is well understood and I'm interested to see what comes next.

Thanks for the review, Barry. I'm a huge fan of the old New U., so expect by issue 3 for the superhero angle to end. I realize that was a mistake. I only put expositions in to bring everyone who doesn't know about the New Universe up to speed. I set it in 1991 to show that it continued after the initial cancellations.
Hope I improve with experience.
