I'm really honored by the reception I've gotten to
70s Champions. I wasn't sure what to expect, because the
Champions title is obscure to most comics fans, although I have fond memories of it. It's also something that has been resurrected before in comics fan fiction, but I think quite differently than I plan to do for the title (i.e.: different characters completely, different timelines, etc.).
As for individual comments. First from Anthony:
The series is literally set in 1978. The only question I had was whether to set it in October 1977 (when the issue was released) or in January 1978 (cover date). I opted for the latter. As for the rest, don't give away my future stories!
Absolutely agree with you there! I'm a big fan of both characters, and I agree totally that both have gotten the shaft over the years. If you like those characters, you'll like what I have in mind for them. I also want to play up their friendship some, and I have a few surprises in store for that as well.
You also made a good point with the Champions' role. They never really got to take the role that I think they deserve--a legitimate super-hero team for the west coast. More on that as the series develops, but I think the groundwork was more or less being laid (but the series ended too soon).
From David:
I think part of what's going to make this series unique is the fact that it picks up directly after
Champions #17, and that it is definitely set in the 70s. It might be a challenge to keep the timelines right
, but I think it be a lot of fun. I think the specific references to issues is important, so that the readers will know what has happened and what hasn't happened at this point. I'm glad all of that worked for you. And, thanks for the support on Ghost Rider. I like the character, but haven't been too thrilled with what's been done with him in recent years either.
From Bryan:
I was wondering how the soundtracks would be received, because it's something I've never done in my stories before, but I thought it would help the readers get in the mood.
I do plan to continue that, at least for a while, and try to have some fun with it.
You have a good point with the numbering, also. This series could have just as easily been numbered 18, but that might have created a mess later on for new readers ("Hey, why didn't those slackers leave 1-17 up at the site?!"--that kind of thing). Still, it is tempting to have duplicate numbers every issue.
Thanks again, everyone, for the reviews. I hope you continue to enjoy the series. I plan on having some fun with it.
Jeff
