And I'm anxious to know what everyone thinks!
However, given the MASSIVE release, I understand it might be awhile before everyone gets around to reading it, so I can wait.
I would like to this chance to say to anyone who enjoyed reading it and might want to take a crack at writing a back-up story set in the world of Noir to email me at depool1979@aol.com. I'm open to pretty much anything, so if you've got some weird take on Batroc that you've always wanted to write, hit me up!!!

How long do you want the back-ups to be? My mind is beginning to formulate something...

For you sir, as long as you want it to be =o). Nah, no more than a few pages I'd think, anything over that it'd probably be better to serialize it. Hit me up, I'd love to hear what you have in mind!

I trully enjoyed this first issue.
I am not familiar with the full backstory of the 616 version of Hellstorm, but I like this version just fine. Sympathetic, relatively not jaded or cynical for a PI...
I also like the versions of other characters: Frank Castle, Nelson and Murdock and Hellcat, nice retooling job on them, good stuff.
I am looking forward to the reading more of this.

Thanks for the kind words sir! There's quite a bit of difference in the two Hellstrom's, the biggest being that, of course, mine isn't a superhero, but honestly, the 616 Hellstrom went through so many revamps that he eventually just became another one of those characters that none of the writers knew exactly what or who he really was. I think the only time he was really, really written well was when he had his own series, kind of mid 90s. If you ever run across a run of it there's some good stuff in there.

I liked this a lot. Strong on atmosphere, entrenched in all the tropes of traditional noir, familiar in terms of style to anyone who's read Chandler or Cain but also fresh with the use of Marvel characters.
It'd be nice to have some more prose to flesh out the dialogue but not if it upsets the balance. Noir *is* 80 per cent dialogue, but it's the cut of the description and metaphor in the other 20 that can really elevate a story like this. I think the middle third, with Damien and Patsy, had this in spades but it was a little lacking in the bookend scenes where a bit more description was needed to bring everything into focus.
On that note, maybe it was because of Patsy that everything came alive in the middle of the piece. I came away quite disliking Damien for various reasons but really, really liking Patsy (although the prose was missing physical description which was a real shame; perfect opportunity for a femme fatale and we didn't get a hint what she looked like). I liked the fact that Patsy's condition was expressed without compunction (ie, she was beaten up badly rather than just roughed up because she's a gal, etc) and that her whole demeanour was tough-as-nails. So far, she's the star of this for my money.
Best exchange of the piece:
“And change the damn sign already!” She screams from the hall.
She always could make me smile.
Looking forward to more.

I also have to say I enjoyed this a lot. It was fun reading the new versions of these characters. The only thing that saddens me is that here we have an alternate Hellstrom title, and not a title with him in it in the main continuity, really. It's a small complaint, and has nothing to do with the quality of the issue itself, though, so ignore me. Other than that, this was a great idea, and I'm anxious to see more, Logan.

Wow, thanks guys, glad you both enjoyed the first issue. I agree it probably is a bit dialogue heavy, descriptive writing has pretty much always been my downfall, especially in fanfic. It's definitely something I need to work on, and with Damien having to go into the MT in the next issue, it's something that's needed, making the next one a bit harder to finish.
As for this being an alternate title with Damien as the lead, I agree Hunter, he's always been a fave of mine, I just hate all the baggage that comes with him in the 616 universe. Plus, he's really only the star of the first arc of this book, but he'll definitely be a big part of it for as long as it goes, what's a noir book without a private dick?

Daimon Hellstrom- Earth 616 is the stand Marvel U. version of Hellstrom, so if you know him in the comics, you know the 616 version.

I just realized I wrote Damien when I obviously meant Daimon...

Don't feel bad Logan, I mean I'm the guy who kept refering to Madelyne Pryor as Madeline in a series where she was one of the main characters.

I'm pretty sure Marvel themselves have called him Damien, maybe more than a half-dozen times over the years. I blame The Omen.
