New X-Men #1:
Just like a lot of people I was greatly anticipating this issue. Having just really come across sites like M2K in the last like two years, I loved the X-Men but felt sort of daunted by all the continuity here. I tried to catch up best I could but it felt so massive. When I saw the new volumes it was like a sense of relief as there were now X-Men series here I could easily get in on the ground floor with all the other readers and not feel so behind. Still plan to catch up with the rest of what came before, but was glad to see it.
The Brotherhood…awesome. So great to see such characters all together and back in action. The surprise reveal…well worth the read. And I can’t wait to see where that goes. Imaging Beast on a show like Larry King’s was pretty amusing I’ll admit. I could almost picture that interview on tv. Overall the issue totally lived up to the hype we’ve all been giving it, and I am definitely along for the ride.
Uncanny X-Men #1:
Just like New X-Men, highly anticipated issue. Was really glad to see that all those Unlimited issues before are tying into both these X-Men titles, as they were great issues. The idea of a giant mutant festival...until I saw it I didn't even realize that I've always wanted to see something like that. Funny how that works.
The cast seems large, but so far each one has been handled perfectly. From the past bits, to the present day each character was perfectly rendered. Angel's bed mate was surprising, but then I'm not up on all my M2K history so I'll have to go check out some stuff, which means more good reading. Colossus finally in one X-Men written universe is with his son and the boy's mother. Good to see him loving them so much and happy for once. Sadly it is the X-Men...and happiness can't last forever as we all know. Poor mutants.

Cory and Bryan have really succeeded dividing up the responsibilities and concepts of their respective titles. New seems to be more or less the "official" team with the mansion and the recognition of human community. Uncanny is the collection of outsiders starting to come together, yet is more in tune with mutant culture and mutant needs.
The one thing I didn't see in either story were super-heroes, and that's a good thing. Just people involved in their respective communities. Scientists and teachers, musicians and businessman, radical protester and nut on the street screaming "The End is Nigh!"
So many questions about what happens next, yet also just as content to sit back and wait for the unexpected. This is New and Uncanny, so let's see what's to come.

I remember back at the beginning of X-Cutioner's Song there was a big X-type festival, concluding with Stryfe (dressed as Cable) shooting Charles Xavier...man, that reminds me of a fanfic... Glad you like the XMU issues, and hopefully, you won't have to do as much reading as I did to get caught up on the characters! My series should be enough of an intro if you've been out of the loop! And Mister Crosby, on a more personal note... ....thank you for the e-mail. I promise I will reply soon.

You mean that e-mail where I mentioned the opening to the X-Cutioner's Song? Frankly, I'm surprised that crossover isn't referenced more often. First time the X-Men confronted X-Force, and that revelation about Cable and Stryfe of course. Also just a damn good story overall.

I'll jam my reviews in here two, don't want to be wasting everyones time with brand new threads when they could be off reading issues like say mine > New X-Men 1 Oh boy and what a number 1! Lets talk about it in reverse order shall we? Oh what a cliff hangar reminiscent of Ultimate X-Men in my mind ot be sure but I'm hoping for not such a cop out as we saw there and a full exploration of what all of this means really. Given what you did to Banshee I'm trusting we can get another 3dimensional 'villain' here...or is this just another version of a hero? The fight on Muir island was great, there's something greatly satisfying to me about seeing the muir island characters for some reason whether it be Rahne, Kevin, David or Sunder and the other 'Muir island X-men'...I just like them ok. So seeing them getting licks in on 90's throwbacks makes for a happy reader in me. Beast on the talk show was also good. I don't know Larry king at all but I would have liked to see some of Beast's playful banter and joking that we love him so much for but yes this is a serious time and a serious project to map the mutant genome...I wonder what they're going to find? Is it wrong that I'm quite excited for some scientific explanations? Uncanny The meat on the bones of the X-World? maybe...though that seems like I'm selling the others short. The fact is i love this stuff. Morlocks, Weapon X, X-Factor, NYX, District X, Casey, Austin, Morrison and whoever else that seems to get it. The X-Men are always trying to fit in and be 'human' but they're not...this is a brand new bloody species which has just errupted from nowhere. This is a great upheaval and I love that now we can get a good look at it. How will these mutants change the world for all they can do what have they truly done for the world other than fight amongst themselves? Lets start a revolution! The team for me is great...well simply because Warren and Piotr really. I love someone is actually going to use them how they should be used unlike the comics. Warren is arguably one of the best spokespersons for mutantdom there is and yet comic creators don't want to use him unless he's got poisoned razor wings *pffft* Piotr is so much the everyman despite all of his power and talents...great to see him with the 'missus' too. A whole new chapter in the M2K mutants has opened up now me thinks.

If you say he got it then I'll be sure to check out the stories he did. Austen, on the other hand... And now that District X has been brought up, I'd love to see Bryan use some of that title's elements. Mutant strip clubs, mutant domestic violence, mixed marriage between a human and a mutant. District X was the worst casualty to come off House of M.

Thank you for bringing back the memories I successfully repressed of the horror show Austen turned the X-Men into, Steve. Now creepy stalker nurse Annie is going to pop up in my nightmares again.

Scott - After reading your review, I feel relieved that I started a new volume for my current run. M2K has a lot of new readers as of late, and while some of the older fans would rather see titles continue on to high numbers in a single volume, I think it's neccesary to make titles accessible. NXM will build on the site's continuity, but hopefully you and others won't feel bogged down by it. Happy to have you along for the ride! Anthony - It's always great to see a review by our resident Doc Samson writer! I wasn't sure how readers would feel about me using Wolfsbane and Proteus/Joseph more than traditional X-Men in this issue, so it's good to hear that at least some of you guys are digging their appearances. I have a couple of more "Muir Island X-Men" set to appear in the next couple of issues. I think you'll enjoy that. I won't say much about the Cyclops plot, but I get the feeling everyone will like how it plays out over my run. And to answer your question, no, it's not bad that you won't some concrete scientific explanations regarding mutants. I think everyone does. Hopefully everyone likes some of the answers Beast and company come up with. Thanks for the reviews, guys!

Another late response to a much-valued review.
Thanks, Anth. I've always felt Warren could be at the forefront of the Marvel Universe in general. Not as a solo hero with his own book, but rather playing off other characters very well. I think he'd make a great addition to the Avengers.
Peter is one of the great success stories of M2K. A character who is divergent in a great many ways from 616 but still in his core, is the exact character we know and love. There are others here at M2K who exemplify that, but Peter more than most. Then there are characters that need to be retooled after past mishaps...and I've got a couple characters like that in my cast too.
After being a part of real political upheaval (as I was part of Barack Obama's team in Colorado...just another Blue state, you know) I really started to feel the ideas I had put forth to Cory in my proposals. Before, I connected most to feeling of alienation and angst, in the common teenager type of way. Now that I'm a little older (just a little, I admit) I'm looking for a bit more to my X-Men saga. If the X-Men want to really bring about change, then it's gonna take a bit more than peaceful dialogue, and it's definitely going to take more than proactive super-heroing. I hope to explore that the most with this series. The X-Men are going to find themselves at the center of a cultural revolution whether they like it or not.
And of course, they get to kick some Shi'ar ass, and tear up the Savage Land. What's not to like about that?
EDIT: And Anth, even if you enjoyed Austen's run, I still respect you. Just wanted to throw that out there.
