Title: Gambit (Vol. 2).
Issue: 2: Fatherly Sins: Part 1.
Author: Ryan Jent.
Warning: There maybe spoilers ahead.
The Good:
We are now two issues into this series, and I can confidently say that Ryan has put together the best rendition of Gambit I have ever encountered. This is ordinarily a character I tend to avoid, one whom I felt has been overplayed for a good while now, and yet, with just two issues, Ryan has washed that stigma away.
Remy is very much the driving force behind his series, and his flaws and weaknesses proving to make him a stronger character, along with his natural charm. His personal conflicts are engaging, and I especially enjoy his interactions with his various supporting cast.
I especially enjoyed the reflection emotions of Remy and Belladonna, both of them coming to feel as though they were the 'victims' in their unplanned night of romance, and yet failing to realize that the other feels the same.
There is a ongoing theme here, between the leaders of both Guilds, of the need to balance the responsibility of leadership with their personal desires. Something that is easier to do in theory than in practice.
The Bad:
I can't say there was anything in this issue I didn't like, so imagine this is blank.
The Highlight:
I'm going to go with the revelation of Gambits daughter, the same little girl that made an impression last issue. I'm really enjoying her characterization thus far and I get the feeling that she will be more than a handful for both of her parents in the coming future.
I feel the revelation was really well handled, with her set up in the first issue and the execution of it here, it has the right balance to remain dramatic instead of shock for shock value.
Ryan has put together another solid, very enjoyable issue for this series, and I eagerly look forward to more.
