Title: X-Force (Vol. 2).
Issue: 26: Cold War: Part 2.
Author: Dino Pollard.
Warning: There may be Spoilers ahead.
The Good:
Dino has been laying the seeds for a pretty complex storyline for a good while now, each issue in his X-Force run putting into the place the various pieces that would result in the revelations that are now coming to light, and its paying off.
X-Force is moving along at a nice, brisk pace, traveling the world and leaving a fair bit of collateral damage in its wake. It is not necessarily an action title however, instead, one that builds on its overarching theme of conspiracy, one that stretches into its own ranks.
Dino is really good at putting together surprising moments, bringing his revelations out of the bag at just the right time, and it's difficult to guess what is coming next.
Which is a good thing.
The Bad:
I don't feel there was anything 'bad' per say, but from a personal perspective I don't quite buy the dynamic between Wisdom and Fury. When they're in separate scenes, I have no qualms with either of their depictions, when they are together I'm not sure it's right.
For quite a few issues now Wisdom has been giving Fury a fair bit of lip, and while this isn't out of character for Pete, I'm not convinced that Fury would be taking it as much as he has been.
It almost feels that Wisdom is getting away with alot more than he should be, that he has one up on Fury in some way which allows him to say whatever he pleases. It doesn't feel right to me that Fury would be standing back and letting him do it so much, with little more than a grim stare in return.
On the whole though, it's a minor thing, and largely down to personal perspective.
The Highlight:
For this one I'm going to with the final moments of the final scene. Its been foreshadowed for a few issues now, that there is a traitor within X-Force, and we finally get to see who it is.
While I'm not convinced that everything concerning this has been played out, far from in fact, I can say that I really liked who it turned out to be, and the impact it has, and will, result in. Of all the characters in the series, this probably was the best choice for dramatic effect, and I feel that the reveal was really well done.
The next issue is one I will most defiantly be reading.
