Good hell, I need to check in here daily. I'd actually be up on these threads.
But I, like Steve, am a fan of Izzy Kane/Smasher. She's a fun take on a long established Marvel character, and really jumped into the Avengers with both feet.
It'd be fun to do a modern Avengers team with an experienced leader and all rookies (not unlike Al Ewing's New Avengers or even the Kooky Quartet).
I'd probably make it like so:
Iron Man Cloud 9 Komodo Wiccan Hulkling Sister Grimm Cullen Bloodstone

Dan Dolan mentioned brainstorming line-ups in another thread and it got me thinking about this one...
Who would you put on your Avengers squad now? For extra credit, give them a mission/reason they come together.

My version would come together in the face of the Illuminati going /too far/ in their preventative measures for the Earth and becoming total tyrants, this would kick off with the death of Thor; feeling that the death of the Avenger with the most raw power has caused the villains of the world to surge with renewed ambition they've stepped in to run pretty much everything "momentarily" to for damage control but "momentarily" slowly becomes "indefinitely"
Dr. Doom would be co-leader, with a big "I told you so" about Reed Richards. Captain America as co-leader. Monica Rambeau Scarlet Witch who has embraced chaos in order to truly pose a threat to Strange who still focuses on the letter of magical law/order. Vision Angela Danielle Moonstar who would now weild Mjolnir Jean Grey who would channel the lifeforce of her older self creating a gestalt "Ultimate Jean"
That's who I'd say now but I'm an incredibly mercurial person. Ask me on a different day and I'd have a different answer, lol

I'd love a team of Avengers that is all people who briefly took up the mantle of the OG teammates. Something where the OG teammates have a falling out and these folks step up to take over.
War Machine - Rhodey would be the team leader much to the chagrin of John Walker. Beta Ray Bill USAgent Ant-Man (Scott Lang) Yellowjacket (Rita DeMara) - Not sure if she's still alive in canon but she was pretty underused in the comics.
Maybe have their first big opponent be Red Hulk to keep the angle going.

I was also toying with a team that was based on who I consider to be the "classic" avengers but reverse gender characters.
Captain America-This is where I was mostly stumped, there are several patriotic female characters but none of them have really the experience or leadership potential of Steve. I was Thinking maybe Jessica Jones perhaps taking on a new identity? Or didn't Misty Knight carry the shield for a bit recently?
Iron Man-Rescue
Thor-Jane Foster
Hank Pym-The Wasp The Wasp-Hank Pym (that was easy lol) (Obviously Hank would be in his Wasp ID and Jan would now be the one who grows, ala Marvel Adventures)
Scarlet Witch-Ian McNee
Vision-Jocasta
Hawkeye-Kate Bishop
Black Panther-Shuri
Captain Marvel-Quasar

I love the idea of the Illuminati team, but lord have they been written poorly.

The problem with the Illuminati is that they operate as a team and do team things. An actual secret-society would get together to discuss an issue, come to a decision, then act through their proxies. There was a story in their respective annuals where the Avengers and Fantastic Four accidentally teamed up against the Skrulls. I could get behind a revelation that the Illuminati set-up the whole thing.

Yeah, an Illuminati book would mix team missions, behind the scenes manipulations, solo stories and ones where the use secondary agents to solve problems.
But, unlike the actual comics, they would actually fix stuff and not spend all their time fighting with each other and making things worse.

The Illuminati was a pretty great idea but I agree it wasn't executed well.

So, DC is doing a series called 'The Terrifics', which is Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, Plastic man and Phantom Girl ( not sure if it's the one from LSH or from Freedom Fighters) basically, DC decided somebody should be doing a Fantastic Four comic, since marvel isn't.
Done right, it has potential, but I'm iffy on the that line up.
So, how would you create a DC FF?
I'd keep Mr. Terrific and Metamorpho, but think I'd swap out Plastic man and use Elongated man instead. Think I'd rather a fire character, so maybe some version of Firebrand or maybe bring back Val Vostok's Negative woman.

Truth be told when I first saw the solicts I mistook Phantom Girl for the female Dr. Light and I think she'd frankly be a better choice.

Not only is she incredibly, powerful, she's also a Brazilian super-spy. Elongated Man is superior to Plastic Man in every way, shape or form. Also Sue Dibny remains alive and they are the greatest couple ever. The good Solomon Grundy from the Starman series was a wonderful character. And by virtue of technically being undead he'll be able to see/communicate with the fourth member: Deadman! Come on, you can't get more invisible than a guy who has to actually possess people to get noticed.
