Yeah, this one's had me wondering for quite some time. There are, in fact, a handful of Marvel writers who admit to reading fanfic... and then there are a bunch who pop up using ideas that are well known to have been done in fanfic first. Those guys don't typically admit to reading fanfic. Chris Munn's been bitten off of, too. Tell 'em, Chris!

Okay, um, I guess I'll say What If Bucky had become Captain America? A career soldier trained and willing to kill, enhanced to just beyond human limits. Of course he'd also be alone, a brash young man with nothing holding him back. Something tells me he'd never be frozen, soak up the popularity, run for public office and spear-head a very frightening 50's administration. That would make for an interesting What If? if done right. I could see a different Bucky, since (as you pointed out), Bucky never had a problem with killing, and it would be interesting to see the contrasts in the way he would handle being Captain America and the way Cap did.

Here's one for you: What if the Skulls launced a full-scale invasion of the Earth during the 1950s?
--or--
What if the Rock Men from Saturn decided to invade the Earth anyway (after the events of Journey into Mystery #83)?

The Skrull invasion of Earth has (kinda) been covered in Marvel's Exiles title.
Pretty much as you described except they took over in the Victorian era.

Well, there weren't any heroes to fight in the Victorian era. The reason I brought up the 1950s idea is because they were dabbling with the idea during that time, and came in contact with 3-D Man. I just thought it would make for an interesting storyline, with the 50s heroes playing an active role in fighting them (as would the 40s heroes still around). Jeff

What if Chamber's chest didn't explode?
Chamber's a long-time favorite, and it'd be interesting to see what his life would have like otherwise.

What if Barry Reese had never come to M2K? He would have never made that post in his LJ, and Mick would never have made those dumb comments, and thus the boycott would never have gone into effect! Remember the days before the boycott? ahh.....so long ago it seems Okay I have to ask about this boycott. Is the reason Mick left Ultimate X-Men?

Okay I'm not sure if this was ever done but...
What If Peter had stayed with the symboite?
Would he be as bad as Venom or would he be able to control it? And if he did go bad with the sym would he be like the best villain in the world?
What if Wolverine had stayed a Horseman of Apocalypse?

I had a similar story in mind the other day. What if Cyclops had control over his powers since they manifested? Basically, he gets adopted at an early age and comes into his own in high school as a pool hustler in Alaska, a la The Color of Money.
...
Oh c'mon. You know that'd be awesome!

I think it was because I kept asking him to edit his issues better before he submitted them. The first two issues I was responsible for as EiC took me an hour a piece to edit, which was way above the site's average, and I tried to use them as examples of how he can improve, but he thought that I was giving him a hard time just because I was friends with Dino. For the record, that wasn't the truth by any means. Shortly after, he had made a lot of negative remarks on our other message board not only about me, but about our server providers (Ryan and Dino), after repeated warnings that he stop it and play cool. After a few more altercations, he was eventually banned him from the site. I think there was a total of nine or ten incidents with him before I finally gave him the shaft, so I was actually being pretty lenient with him.

Scott never joins the X-Men and instead makes a fortune playing pool and one day goes pro and joins the pros. I can see it happening.
Jean leaves the group after seeing Scott play and becomes his pool groupie.

And if he did go bad with the sym would he be like the best villain in the world? This was actually touched on in the last issue of the What If? comic, concerning if the heroes had never returned home from the Secret Wars and taking place 20 years later. Everybody was uneasy around Spider-Man, and he kept referring to himself as "we". In a later battle, he gets blasted by Klaw and we see the symbiote screaming in pain as it's seperating from Peter Parker's skeleton.

That actually sounds pretty interesting. Was it implied that Pete's body had been eaten away during the years he had been bonded to the symbiote or was that just an after effect of Klaw's blast?

That's what I wanted to know. I mean no one has stayed with the symbiote for that long so we really dont know what would happen to the person in the suit.
